UT Arlington ran into trouble in the closing minutes of the Southland Conference title deciding game with Arkansas State. The Indians downed the Rebels 22-21. Sandra Griffin, a 20-year-old junior, was elected Miss Dixie Belle. Congratulating her are Acting President Dr. Frank Harrison and school spirit leader Johnny Reb, Scott Taylor.

Homecoming Bonfire Attractsl I 5 000 Fifteen thousand Arlington residents and university students witnessed the lighting of UT Arlington's Homecoming bonfire Nov. 8. Work on the bonfire began some two weeks before as campus fraternities collected scrap- wood and other materials. A helicopter was used to add finishing touches to the top of the pile. Fraternity members served as guards. The Fijis were honored for gathering the most wood. Sandra Griflin was crowned Miss Dixie Belle Saturday night at the UT Arlington- Arkansas State game by Acting President Dr. Frank Harrison. In a game deciding the Southland Conference championship Arkansas State edged past the Rebels 22-21, A Homecoming Parade was held in the morning through downtown Arlington with over 100 entries. Singer Neil Diamond ap- peared Friday night after the bonfire. Others receiving honors during the Home- coming festivities were Jim Pritchett and Candy Beach, Mr. and Miss Rebel Spirit. Phi Delta Theta fraternity received the Spirit Stick. . 4 is Thousands of area residents and students gathered to watch the burning of the Rebel's giant bonfire. The Fijis won the award for gathering the most bonjire wood. 28

-U'--is in-' Freshman class beauty candidate Teresa Gofrorth seems relatively undisturbed despite. being surrounded by campus beasts Dale Smith, Randy Berry and Ronnie Morrison. The four competed in the Beauty and the Beast Contest. Kathi Harrison tcenterj was named Miss Sweden in the SAB sponsored contest. First runner up was Debbie Bridges Kleftj. Charlotte Groce placed third. Campus Contests Name A Beauties, Uglles i ? Coeds practiced their smiles and males 5 'Til Aa its worked on their grimaces as competition p , tsl-'PXX began in the Alpha Phi Omega sponsored rfsr S sg it Beauty and the Beast Contest in December. K i 'M The contest pitted campus groups against ts f '- -, one another in order to make money for a ,J as school gift. Votes were sold for a penny each. gk is Delta Zeta's Biff Ord won the beauty title while Mike Kirkland of Trinity dorm was named as most ugly. Awards were presented at the Christmas Snow Ball in December. Kathi Harrison was chosen the girl most likely to be a Swede in the Student Activities Board sponsored Miss Sweden competition. The contest was part of a week-long series of displays and activities honoring Sweden. Debbie Bridges was first-runner up, with Charlotte Groce taking third. All were blondes in keeping with Nordic tradition. 3!l
