FOREWORU The year 1960-61 was another year of progress for Arlington State College. It was the second year of the four-year status awarded by the Texas Legislature. ,It was a year marked by strides forward in the academic world. It was also a year of consolidation of gains made in the first year of the four-year status. In 1960 Arlington State's first professor emeritus was named by Pres- ident R. Woolf. The honor went to Professor C. M. Howard of the math- ematics department. This appointment was closely followed by the appoint- ment of jesse L. Owens as the second professor emeritus of the faculty. A new engineering building was opened with new classrooms and offices easing the burden of the enrollment boom. The E. H. Hereford Memorial Student Center was enlarged with the addition of 40,000 square feet. Rooms for meetings, a new snack bar, and other improvements were added to the Student Center with an eye to providing more and better facili- ties for Arlington State's students. Enrollment at Arlington State soared past the 7,600 total student mark. This spiraling increase pushed ASC into fourth place in the list of Texas state-supported colleges, only a few students behind North Texas. The REVEILLE staff has picked the first senior class ring selected by Arlington State to symbolize the advances made in the past year and the school year itself. The REVEILLE editor and staff have attempted in the photographing, writing, and assembling of the year's events and people to weave them into a pattern of progress with the senior class ring as its theme. The editor of the REVEILLE hopes the students of Arlington State will remember the school year 1960-61 as a year of progress and change for the college. The staff has felt a deep sense of awe at chronicling the events of a year so filled with change for Arlington State College. The Editor
