OUR PRINCIPAL “There will now be” “a moment of silence.” Members of the Class of 1967: Once more 1 have the privilege of writing a letter to a graduating class at Arlington High School, and once more I would speak as a voice from your common heritage, a voice that bids you fare well on your separate ways, free American men and women and responsible citizens of a wondrous and troublous world. The Staff of your yearbook, the 1 967 Indian, has chosen as a theme for your book: The day shall not be up so soon as I, To try the fair adventure of tomorrow. Shakespeare It is a line that excites the imagiiiation and demands action. Such a theme is not for the late or the lazy. You are going to live in the world of tomorrow, and I suspect it is not a place for the late in understanding or the lazy in considering what needs to be done. Today is well along towards that tomorrow, and we may see already in the afternoon shadows an earnest of tomorrow ' s adventures. Would you have tomorrow yours to cherish? Do you seek a fair adventure? Then, as Shakespeare suggests through the character, Lewis, speaking after a day of disappointment in The Life and Death of King John , you must step lively, before the sun is up! Your theme is a good one. It speaks to us all from the end of bitter struggle, with much reason to be discouraged. But it is not a discouraging theme! From a tired past it calls to those who believe in a fair adventure and have faith in themselves tomorrow. It is your theme today! I can add to such an enterprising call only cheers for you, the Class of 1967, as you try the fair adventure of tomorrow.
