Senior Play So This is Bliss In the play, Dexter Smith, the troubled one, will soon be eighteen and ready either for college or marriage. Deck is wise in math, baseball, and gas-station operations but not about women. Spring and Marcella Payne hit him socko , and he finds himself engaged to Marcella. Reluctantly, he abandons college hopes, and urged by his fiance, announces he would like to get married as soon as he becomes eighteen. Mother Smith says nonsense , Dad Smith says O.K., but that he wants Deck to take care of the service station, tourists rooms and even Baby Chips, his sister's baby, for a week-end. Dad, Mother, and Kid Sister go to the lake for the week-end. While they are gone, the service station overflows with tourists wanting rooms., a truck driver, a college field man. a pair of irresistible co-eds, Deck's older sister. his insurance selling brother-in-law. his baby nephew, Mar- cella this fiancej with her mother and her three little hellion cousins. Dutch Kelley. one of the co-eds, is stuck with a varsity show. She finds some of Deck's poems and music to fit them. More important she finds Deck and helps save him from a matrimonial trap that is about to spring. Deck's experience over the week-ond at the service station. helped by the attractiveness of Dutch, convinces him that he is not ready for mar- riage but that he should go to college where he can not only continue his education but also become better acquainted with Dutch.
