Administrators Look fo Early Bird's the word when it comes to changes in administration at Arlington High this year. Under this program, 1nore than six hundred students be- gin classes at 7:45 A.M. and are dismissed at the close of fifth hour. Early Bird was initiated as an attempt to partially relieve our population prob- lem. It's success is revealed by the fact that this program offers an advantage to those students who have after school jobs. Most of the other administrative changes come under the category of new or experimental courses. Foremost among these is the Humanities curricu- lum. The Humanities course is offered onlty to sen- iors. It includes a variety of activities in the fields of 21111, music, social science and English literature. Under the guidance of a different teacher in each field, the Humanities is able to offer a unique cul- tural as well as learning experience to its partici- pants. The experimental materials are being used in the fields of biology, geometry, and U.S. History. Through these new ideas an attempt is being made to find better and more effective teaching methods. Dr. Edward Gilbert, Ph.D., and Dr. McLennan, Ph.D. are the superintendent and assistant superin- tendent of District 214 respectively.
