Freshmen Know- ow Apprehensive and eager, four hundred and eighty fresh- men entered AHS this fall. Many immediately joined clubs, embarked on athletic careers, and participated in dramatic and musical productions so that the strangeness of high school was replaced by the feeling of security. Under the direction of the class sponsors, Mr. Cashen and Miss Claney, the yearls activities began. The freshman class party was held on October 11 with entertainment provided by upperclassmen. Later in Gctober, the frosh began campaigning for class officers. Two weeks after, they elected their Student Council representatives and their class board. The freshmen looked forward to Homecoming with en- thusiasm. Although none of the freshmen floats placed, the freshmen enjoyed working on them during the hectic nights before the parade. The cheers led by Sally Moore, Margo Hauff, and Laurel Gray added excitement to the frosh-soph game. Later in the year the frosh participated in the Talent Show and sponsored the March turn-about. The Freshmen were required to take one year of math- ematics and one year of biology. Meeting these requirements were general mathematics and algebra. General math was a survey course reviewing fundamental concepts, and algebra was an introduction to problem solving. Biology opened the doors to the secrets of living things, both plant and animal.
