KY RE LS PL Ranging from aeronautics to foreign languages, full schedule of clubs has once again been offered to Ar- lington students and has included many different and in- teresting fields. In addition to working on projects and ac- quiring a better understanding of a specific field, students having the same interests had an opportunity to become better acquainted with each other. One of the activities in which all the science clubs participated was the Junior Academy of Science. Students from grades seven through twelve were eligible to enter projects in the Academy, which was affiliated with the Illinois Academy of Science. In the spring students com- pleted projects which consisted of collections, experi- ments, and original interpretations. Participants in the Junior Academy of Science first competed in district con- tests, the winners of these then competed for state honors. ' Standing: Judy Schuler. The thirty-six members, sponsored by Mr, Roberts, had as their high flying officers .lim Knollmuller, president: Ray Vesillus, vice-president, and Sandy Baker, secretary. Seeing stars? Astronomy Club members did when they made night observations using the telescope made by some of the members. Under the direction of Mr. Dowell and Mr. Pumphrey, the chief star gazers were jeff Hanor, presidentg Glenn Forster, vice-president, and Shirley Stad- nick, secretary-treasurer. Sponsored by Mr, Kcmman, Mr. Kellogg, and Mr. Goins, the Biology Club under the leadership of George Sampson, Tip Yager, Bonnie Lippke, and George Sawyer spent much time and effort in preparation for the junior Academy of Science, which met this year at Elmwood Park. 'ff L'-V. f in . 1 do-' ' .goat BU HEL ' A PECK Competition in various state and regional contests gave the members of the Future Farmers of America tro- phies, ribbons, and individual awards. Livestock, grains. and other phases of farming were focal points of the judg- ing at these contests. Recognition was also given to the boys at the Parent-Son Banquet in November, when those who had clone outstanding work in the organization were given honorary degrees. Even though a small percentage of FFA members did not live on farms, all were given opportunities to work on farms and enjoy rural life on weekends and during the summer. During school, vocational agriculture classes, in which learning the operation of farm equipment and studying soil types, conservation, and dairying were stressed. offered the boys experience in farm management.
