Prog ress Shining wings in the sunlight: man is soaring there. A hum of motors in the depths of the sea: man has found passage. A rush of wind, a flash of polished steel: man is speeding over smooth highways! Per aspera ad astra. Yes, though the way be thorny, man thinks and fights his way on, the stars his goal. Our yearbook artists have pictured for us progress in all types of transportation: the freshmen on bicyclesg the sopho- mores in horse-drawn carriagesg the juniors in high-powered carsg the seniors riding effortlessly in stream-lined trains. Do students ever give thought to the endless ingenuity of pioneer spirits who have perfected these mighty servants of man? Ah, yes, the seniors have pondered deeply these, and many other weighty questions. We have chosen this theme, Progress, for our yearbook because it so well typifies our spirit- the spirit of A. H. S. graduating class of 1937. We do not arrogate to our- selves any glory for the achievements of previous generations. We realize they are gifts-a rich heritage which we have re- ceived. May it be our privilege so to use already existent knowl- edge that we may pass on an even richer heritage to later genera- tions, a torch to point the way. We shall need to solve economic, social and political prob- lems. We need endless good will in our personal relationships and in national and international dealings. We need a social con- science which is dissatisfied unless it finds the highest good for all people. Such progress shall be our aim, and, we hope, our achievement!

Dedicolion The Senior Class considers itself highly privileged in being able to dedicate this 1937 Yearbook to Miss Mary Elizabeth O'Connell, Dean of our high school. Miss O'Connell is looked upon by the student body not only as a competent teacher. but also as a capable ad- visor and friend. So with all happiness may you con- tinue the execution of your splendid services for our school.
