Cheering the sports- men on to victory has taken much of Laurie's time the past three years, but she has also been active in Spirit of the Hill, Student Coun- ‘cil, and the Spanish Club. Laurie has engaged in various track and field meets. In her sophomore year she was a Favorite finalist. In her senior year, Laurie was class secretary and was presented at half-tim e at Farrington Field (dur- ing the game with Paschal) as the 1979 AHHS Homecoming Queen. This year was the sec- ond year in a row for the title of most friendly to be awarded to Leslie Butler. A three year letter- man in football, he has also played Laurie Maxwell and Leslie Butler baseball for three years and has run track for two years. Leslie was Co-Captain of the mighty Jacket football team in his senior year, the year that saw Heights grab the Bi-District Championship. This team was undefeated in District plays. On campus, Leslie was active in Student Council and served on the Executive Board and its Police Committee. Heights Highlights 145 Lamp ot Knowledge Shared by Scholarly Pair ul Senior National Honor Society members Carole Raulston and Steve Mooney were chosen by the student body as the most scholarly Heightsters. Exem- plifying the Greek philosophy of a sound mind in a sound body, the studious two were dedicated to learning and to athletic pursuits. Steve Mooney took an active role in the various com- mittees and projects of the 146 Heights Highlights ; 4 7 Steve Mooney and Carole Raulston A.H.H.S. Student Council. The honor of President of the Senior Class was bestowed on Steve by his fellow classmates. His leader- ship and knowledge were seen not only in the classroom but also on the gridiron and diamond. Although Carole Raulston was a JV Cheerleader, she was a valuable player in both the tennis and soccer teams. She was a member of the Student Council, being chosen its Sweet- heart during her senior year. Car- ole was also named Student Coun- cil Secretary for the 1978-1979 year. The members of the Spanish Club chose her as Vice-President of its organization. She received the Scholastic Achievement Award in Math. In her senior year, Carole was Co-President of the Spirit of the Hill. Sportsmanship Spotlights Outstanding Athletic Duo For the third straight year the honor of Most Athletic Girl has been bestowed on Senior Dee Carriker. Dee's love of sports and dedication to challenge and team effort have made her a fine sportswoman. During her days at Heights Dee has been an active participant in track and field and soccer. In track events, Dee has proved her abilities in the eight- eighty yard run and the one mile relay. Dee has been an asset to the Girls' track team in the field events of the triple jump and the high jump. Dee's soccer playing has helped lead the Heights girls to a fourth year of city victories. Dee plans to attend Baylor and major in Pre-med with special training and emphasis in the field of athletic medicine. One of Heights’ most valuable gridders, senior Curtis Ferguson has been honored as this years most athletic boy. Curtis has played football for the Hill for four years. As a Junior, he was named All-District Running Back, an honor achieved again in his senior year. As a Senior, he was also named All Tarrant County Running Back. During his junior and senior football seasons, he gained more than 2,000 yards rushing. Curtis has also played baseball all four years on the Hill. Curtis’ hobbies are also sports ori- ented — tennis, water-skiing, and snow-skiing.
