Howdy Week Week's Activities Aimed at Welcoming To welcome freshmen to Heights and to help them feel at home on the Hill, Howdy Week began with a program introducing the various clubs and organizations. The Student Council sponsored the program which used The God- fatherv for the theme. The Howdy dance was given by Allied Youth on the school patio. Highlighting the close of Howdy Week, Howdy Kings and Queens from each class were presented at a pep rally. Royalty included Eddie Gant and Allison Kerr, seniorsg juan Becera and Donise Wilson, juniorsg Stuart Montague and Peggy Stocker, sophomores g and Ed Beggs and Mel- issa Herring, freshmen. Christmas Elves Spread Cheer Throughout Halls The essence of Christmas spread throughout the halls and across the patio on Elf Day as Santa's merry helpers deliv- ered telegrams, candy, toys, and gifts to students. Willie Thomas and Anne Sza- blowski, dressed as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, visited classrooms during the day. The Special Projects Committee spon- sored Elf Day and the Decorations Com- mittee ornamented the Christmas tree in the entry hall. Miss Betty Watson's homeroom 17 won first place for the best Christmas locker decoration. Other awards were received by Mrs. Beverly Ross, homeroom 117 for umost original and Miss Dona Stovallis homeroom 307 for most spir- itedf, Under the directorship of Mr. Ed Haw- kins, choral teacher, and Mr. Fred Bilder- back, band instructor, the chorus and band presented a Christmas program com- bining traditional and modern arrange- ments. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus Calias Willie Thomas and Anne Szablowskij give a merry Christmas greeting. Sherry Morris, Anne Szablowski, Karen Keil, Linda Bussey, Cindy Bradley, Eunice Bratron, and Claudia Hutchinson model the various elf attire of the season. Toni Morris, junior, writes a Christmas message to be sent to some surprised receiver by one of the many elves who appeared at Heights on December 19, 1972-
