Girls Show Teamwork Dedication, determination, and teamwork were on- ly a few of the reasons the A-GI volleyball team finished the conference in third place and had a respectable record of 8-6. The team consisted of six seniors, five juniors, and three sophomores. The team was coached by Mr. Don Sauter. Numerous hours of hard work was the key to making their team the best it could be. Brenda Herbst and Karen Thoele were selected as All-Conference players and Mary Eibs was named as Honorable Mention. Because of low numbers in both A-GI and Henderson, the teams paired under a two-year contract. The junior high teams had paired the previuos two years. Henderson added thirteen football players to the roster of 40, to make one nice sized team. The home games were scheduled for this season; two were played in Arlington and one in Henderson. The pairing of teams also gave Sibley-East an advantage over other teams in the Minnesota River Conference. The team started only juniors and seniors. These players had a good con- ference record and also took the team through Section III playoffs to a championship that gave them a birth in the state playoffs this year. Coach Baker said, “We never would have gone this far if A- GI and Henderson wouldn’t have combined.” Two of the more memorable games were against Gaylord- Winthrop and Le Center. Sibley East started out the season with a big win over its long time rival Gaylord-Winthrop. Sibley East dominated the game with excellent passing and running. The Le Center game started the Section III playoff. The entire game was a duel with Sibley East the victor by one point. The Sibley East Bengals are looking forward to another good season next year.
