The 1983 football year started and ended with winning notes. The team reached its highpoint early by pouncing Gaylord-Winthrop and edging out Bird Island in overtime, both of which went on into the state championships. They went on to defeat N-YA and ended the season by soundly trouncing Mankato Loyola to finish with a 4 win — 5 loss record. The senior lead team showed their experience, pride, and determination by going to the wire with many of the Minnesota River Conference foes, which is billed as the toughest football conference in Minnesota.
