Several new faces were seen on the ASU campus this year, including new instructors, transfer students, freshmen and several international students. The fall enrollment, which was the second highest in ASU's history, contained 2,975 freshmen, with the spring class only slightly lower. Among the international students attending ASU this spring were a group of Saudi Arabian customs officials and some 50 Malaysian students. 15

ASU received several gifts from various donors. In April 1981 Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity presented ASU with a ceremonial mace for use at formal occasions. VV. A. Lacy 111 donated 15 Arabian horses valued at more than $180,000 and alumnus VV. C. Mills, Jr., donated a registered Yorkshire hog valued at $4,000 for use by the animal science department. A gift to the ASU Foundation was the $250,000 Cass S. Hough Aeronautical Library, which includes some 10,000 books, paintings, engravings and historical documents covering the field of aviation from early balloon flight to men on the moon. . . .
