Liberal Party Wins Despite Late Actions SGA Election Week got off to a slow start behind the conventional cam- paigning of the Liberal Party, picked up some with the entrance of the Tell It Like It Is Populist Party and then really moved out with the surprise pub- lication of an independent news sheet backing various candidates. Handshaking, backslapping, mouthing and the other standard items on the political do-list got plenty of workout by both parties, as did the slightly more popular device of party-backed student dances. By week ' s end, every prospec- tive ' voter had been hounded and hounded and . . . But in the end, everyone agreed that it was one of the best elections that A Stutc had had in recent years. The Liberal Partv, which swept all but one of the major offices, agreed wholeheartedly, while the Populist Party leaders insisted that this student body just wasn ' t ready for change. 18

Leadership Retreat: Students Take Over The 1968 Leadership Retreat was marked by some of the best discussions and presenta- tions in the outing ' s history. Although Friday night ' s sessions lacked a little luster, things got rolling Saturday, and when the evening finally closed students were wishing it hadn ' t, for the campus leaders still had many queries. A handful of students spent Friday night around a card table, then presented the others with a breakfast serenade about their experiences. For the most part, though, there were few frivolities, for the topics at hand were serious. Dean Moore didn ' t even get his usual dunking in the lake of Walcott ' s state park Some students played volleyball during the Saturday afternoon break.
