Growing Up . . . Arkansas State University is swiftly chang- ing its image from that of a Northeast Arkansas college to a statewide university. The face-lifting has received a big boost the past two years with the Indians appearance in War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The game in the state ' s central city has done more than familiarize football fans with the calibre of our athletic program. It has given more of Arkansas a chance to meet the real components of the school — its students. The school ' s spreading image got another lift last year when Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller appointed W. P. Gulley of Little Rock to the school ' s board of trustees. In the past most board members have been almost exclusively from the Northeast Arkansas area. The facilities of the Carl R. Reng Center and Fine Arts Center have been used to house conventions of professional, civic and school groups. Each summer the campus is flooded by high school students from the entire state who participate in the various clinics and camps.
