DEAN SHOWALTER Dr. D. F. Showalter, as Dean of the College, has been a very important figure in the development of the College since he accepted this position three years ago. Dean Showalter is an ever ready adviser for both the faculty and the students. He is often called on to speak at various high schools of the state, and to help solve educational problems. At the annual meeting of the Arkansas Educational Association, Dr. Showalter was elected vice-president of the Arkansas College Educatonal Association. He recently won distinction for his work on an experiment, Learning of Human Subjects on Mazes. By keeping in constant contact with pro- gressive education all over the United States as well as with Arkansas educational organizations, Dean Showalter is prepared to offer excellent advice to students who expect to enter the teaching profession. REGISTRAR ELDR1DGE H. E. Eldridge has held the official position of Registrar at Arkansas State since 1923. His long period of service has found him faced with many duties — his most important being to keep a permanent record of each student ' s scholastic and extra-curricular activities. It is also his task to superivse the management of the National Youth Administration of the College. He serves in the capacity of super- vising engineer for the construction, repairing, and maintenance of all College buildings and outlying property. Hunting and fishing are his favorite hobbies, and when he wishes to relax from his important duties, he indulges in these sports. DEAN OF MEN, BOLLARD As Dean of Men, Henry W. Hollard is chiefly concerned with the young men of Arkansas State College— apart from their classroom work. His understanding of the problems of young men makes him capable of helping the student to an intelligent understanding of his own interest in the community. Besides serving the post of Dean of Men, Mr. Hollard has charge of all chapel programs, is an instructor in the College, and supervises the College dairy. His office has supervision of all extra-curricular activities. Empha- sizing prevention and cure above discipline is his chief concern. DEAN OF WOMEN, MRS BROWN Mrs. Mary Rogers Brown as Dean of Women, fills a position similar to that of Dean of Men. The occupant of this position helps those girls who have problems concerning their social, scholastic, and private affairs. Mrs. Brown undertook her duties as Dean of Women with the opening of the fall semester, 1937-38. She succeeded her mother, Mrs. Nannie A. Rogers, and her sister, Mrs. Adelaide R. Gafke. Many girls, both in the dormitory and living in town, go to Mrs. Brown for kindly advice. Her motherly feelings have cheered many who were home-sick during the first few weeks of school.
