THE WOUNDED ARE HOISTED ABOARD— Groans of pain and anxiety accompany the hoisting aboard of these survivors from an LCI hit by a suicide plane. This picture was taken at Kerama Retto, an anchorage formed by a tiny group of islands to the west of Okinawa, where we rearmed and refueled. It was quiet during the day, but at night it was Kamikaze Junction.
