He directs the Women's Glee club, teaches voice classes, gives private instruction, and manages Mu Bho Alpha. Coach Budy Lavik Was this year appointed head of the department of physical educa- tion. He was formerly Bulldog football and track coach and retains the latter position. Dean I. C. Grimes acts as head of the de- partment of psychology. The department offers a 15 hour minor to students. Its hours may be counted as education electives. Dr. George Bateman, Well known scientist, is head of the science department of the college. Dr. Bateman is a contributor to scientific journals and an authority on chemistry, in which field he teaches here. Dr. Bufus K. Wyllys is the head of the social science department. He has Written sev- eral historical Works, among them Pioneer Padre , a study of the life of Father Kino. Dr. lames Wert is head of the college's graduate school. Dr. Wert has the task of organizing the curriculum and offering of the college to enable it to grant the master's degree, last year's legislative concession. Mr. Balph Masteller, graduate of the Uni- versity of lowa and Penn college, is the head of the commerce department here. Dr. Louis Myers, head of the department of English, is a graduate of St. Stephan's college, Columbia, and the University of California. He recently studied in Europe. Dr. Samuel Burkhard, head of the depart- ment of education, conducts the college's main educational phase. He earned his master's degree at Columbia and his doctor's degree at New York university. it . 23

Q 1 DEPARTMENTAL HEADS . . Heading the art department is Miss Paula Kloster. She received her master's degree from Leland Stanford university and has studied at the Minneapolis Institute of Art as Well as the Chouinard lnstitute. She has traveled in many parts of the World. E Dr. B. lra ludd serves as head of the agriculture department. He has a bachelor's and master's degree from Utah State and a Ph. D. from the University of Nebraska. Miss Ruth Douglass heads the department of home economics. She has an M. A. from Colorado State. Her department equips students to teach or practice home making. Prof. Lewis S. Neeb is in charge of the college's modern industrial arts department. Dr. Fernand Cattelain, who holds an A. M. degree from Baylor university and a Ph. D. from Descancon, France, heads the foreign language department which offers Spanish, German, and French. Students in this department may obtain either a major or minor. The college's mathematics department head is Dr. Charles Wexler, graduate of Harvard. He is also the college's official representative for the Border Conference in Athletics. Qi
