1 X, and Miss Dobbs have served at the college for a number of years, while Mr. Cady, a graduate of the institution here in 1934, is a new addition to the business staff this year. T. I. Cookson serves as head of the college library, assisted by Miss Irene Reed and Miss lda Wilson. Mr. Cookson has watched the growth of the library from a small room with twelve tables, to one ot the largest places oi its kind in the entire state of Arizona. Assisting Mr. lrish with the duties oi registrar is Miss Amelia Kudobe, recorder. co dr. a. j. matthews, president emeritus since 1930, was president of the college for 30 years previous to his resignation from that post. OFFICES OF . . . ADMINISTRATION President Emeritus Matthews, who for 30 years was president of the college, has watched the development of the present campus from a barren tract of sand into the semi-tropical garden that it now is. Taking the presidency in 1900, he re- signed in 1930 and received his present title. Vigorous and energetic, Dr. Matthews is now concerned with the supervision of the gardening. Heading the campus placement bureau is 1. D. Payne. I-Iis office has functioned most efficiently in placing nearly every one of approximately 200 graduates each year. Mr. Payne was formerly director of the campus training school which bears his name. 1-le is assisted by Miss Barbara Benson, graduate of Arizona State college in 1937. Secretary to the president is Miss Mary Bunte. She has been Doctor Gammage's secretary since he held the presidency of Flagstaff college and has managed various sorority affairs as well as having taught in many of the college's extension courses. Rendering medical service to students and operating the college infirmary is Miss losephine Durham, registered nurse, who efficiently aids in preservation of health. The college dining hall supplies all meals for students living on the campus as well as providing most of the local income from which student employment rolls are met. I-leading the dining hall as steward is Mr. Robert Krause. I-le is assisted by his wife, Mrs. Martha Krause, who also serves as secretary of the employment committee. Une of the most important duties of the college administration is the handling of finan- cial affairs by the business office. 1-leading this branch is Mrs. Sybil May, financial secretary, who is aided by Mr. Gilbert Cady and Miss Laura Dobbs. Q 1 DEPARTMENTAL HEADS . . Heading the art department is Miss Paula Kloster. She received her master's degree from Leland Stanford university and has studied at the Minneapolis Institute of Art as Well as the Chouinard lnstitute. She has traveled in many parts of the World. E Dr. B. lra ludd serves as head of the agriculture department. He has a bachelor's and master's degree from Utah State and a Ph. D. from the University of Nebraska. Miss Ruth Douglass heads the department of home economics. She has an M. A. from Colorado State. Her department equips students to teach or practice home making. Prof. Lewis S. Neeb is in charge of the college's modern industrial arts department. Dr. Fernand Cattelain, who holds an A. M. degree from Baylor university and a Ph. D. from Descancon, France, heads the foreign language department which offers Spanish, German, and French. Students in this department may obtain either a major or minor. The college's mathematics department head is Dr. Charles Wexler, graduate of Harvard. He is also the college's official representative for the Border Conference in Athletics. Qi
