There was only one player from last year's team returning and that was senior Rich Boyer. The remainder of the team was made up of three juniors and five sophomores. The fans were tremendous, they knew the situation very well and followed the team faithfully; they only expected improvement and that they got. The boys worked hard knowing all the results of their efforts would not be evident this year. One conference game was won, a thrilling two-point victory over Monticello, 57-55, and the two non-conference games against Hollandale were also won, the first by a record 72 points, 93-21 and the other 83-60. The team played especially well in losing to New Glarus 60-69 and in losing to Belleville on a shot made with six seconds to go 63-65. Among the nine conference teams the Orioles finished the regular season eighth on offense and sixth on defense. Although defense was somewhat better than offense, some fine individual game efforts were evident. Roger Godfrey and Eric Anderson each scored 27 points for their highs. Rich Boyer and Craig Gruenberg scored 18, Tom Aebly scored 16 and Tom Ritschard and Jon Erickson had highs of 12 apiece. Roger Godfrey lead the team in scoring with 220 points. He and Eric Anderson were the only two players shooting 40% ormore from the field. Tom Aebly shot the best from the free throw line with a 64% average. Godfrey had the most rebounds (128) with Aebly a close second (122). Leading in assists were the guards Eric Anderson and Rich Boyer. As a team the Orioles shot 35% to the opponents' 40% in field goals. From the free throw line Argyle shot 53% to the opposition's 59%. The season did not produce many victories, but surprisingly it did not seem long with the hope of much improvement next year.
