HOME ECONOMICS Home Economics covers all phases oi homemaking and is designed to meet the needs of girls who intend to make a career in Home Economics as well as those who may not be going to college. Future Homemakers of America is an organization which can be joined by all girls in Home Ec. Gathered around the stoves are Sally Loeffelholz, Phyllis Nybroten, Mrs. Barnes, Ann Ommodt, Kathy Steiner and Tamara Matley who seem to be preparing a delicious meal. ART This is the first year in which Art is part of the high school curriculum. The class is quite popular with the students and many of them are finding out how diversified the field of art study is. The students have been learning the basic principles, which include color,balance,form, light, composition and many others. Engrossed in their project of toothpick sculpture, a study in the third dimension, are seated: Marilyn Eidsmoe, Margaret Wold, Anne Marie Brattrud and Pat Corbin. AGRICULTURE Agriculture is offered to the students for all four years, with a great variety of subject matter presented. Each student enrolled in Ag. is required to carry an active farm project. All the Ag. boys belong to Future Farmers of America. In the picture we see Ernest Gebhardt, Phil Everson and Alan Lewis testing corn for moisture content. 23

SCIENCE Science today plays an ever increasing part in our lives. New medicines are discovered, rockets and missiles are shot into space and radioactive isotopes are used. These all are advances being made in Science. The student of today is urged to take more science courses than ever before. Here at Argyle High General Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics are offered. With the aid of several National Science Foundation scholarships Mr. Arnot has been able to acquire an up-to-date background in Biology and Chemistry. He has introduced new equipment to our classes and has taught us much about the effects of radiation upon mankind. The above picture shows Mr. Arnot showing Kenneth Daly and Ronnie Waage the correct use of a new microscope during a General Science class. MATHEMATICS Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Math and Trigonometry are the courses offered by our Mathematics department. Math has become one of the more important subjects in Argyle High School because in the space age it is becoming necessary to have a good background in mathematics to secure a professional position. The classes offered in Math at Argyle fulfill any college requirements. In the picture Hope Lofgren of the sophomore Geometry class is illustrating the procedure of bisecting an angle while Margaret Kuhnke, Mr. Young and the rest of the class look on. 22

ENGLISH The bulletin board of the English department shows drawings and photographs depicting scenes from Shakespeare. The laborers are Ann Larson and Rosalind Ros-sing. BUSINESS EDUCATION Another of the very important areas of training in our school is the Business Education department. Many of our students receive valuable preparation for the business world which prepares them for jobs immediately Sifter graduation. Mr. Maroushek, a new second semester teacher, is showing Diane Meyer where she made an error in shorthand transcription. LATIN Those students who desire to take a foreign language for college entrance requirements find that Latin,taught by Mr. Morgan, is an interesting as well as a helpful course. Only a portion of the Latin students are in the picture to the right. 24
