The crowning of the Homecoming Queen. SEATED: Freshman attendant Joyce Anderson, Queen Marlys Isely, Sophomore attendant Kathryn Flanagan. STANDING: Junior attendant Margaret Barry, King John Flanagan, Senior attendant Barbara Elmer. HOMECOMING Our Homecoming festivities began on a Thursday night with a snake parade, bonfire and pep rally. On the following Friday afternoon the high school and grades plus a few local businessmen presented floats or marching units in the annual homecoming parade. That evening the traditional football game was played. The final score was the only disappointment of the day. After the game a dance was held in the gym with music played by a 1955 graduate, Roger Bright, and his band. 28

FOOTBALL Plagued by injuries and streaky playing, the Argyle Orioles suffered one of the poorest football seasons in recent history. After losing to South Wayne in the non-conference opener, they bounced back to fight defending champion New Glarus to a tie. The following week matched Argyle against Belleville in a real thriller. After Belleville broke away to a 24 to 12 lead, Argyle came back, scoring nine points in the final period and had possession of the ball at mid-field when the game ended. However, the effort fell short and Belleville played the role of 24 to 21 victors. Friday, September 25, found Argyle still gunning for its first victory, and victory it was since the Orioles pushed Brodhead all over the field and trounced them 33 to 7 before an enthusiastic Mom and Dads' night crowd. Argyle was on its way at last! The following week against Juda it looked as though the team was going to rack up its second victory, scoring six points and holding Juda scoreless going into the third period. A spirited Juda team came out in the second half and proceeded to score three touchdowns -- Argyle's hopes were shattered. From this points on the Orioles seemed to lose spirit and fell to Brooklyn and Orfordville. The last game of the year matched Argyle against Blanchardville in what proved a very interesting game as both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter. Argyle sagged, and Blanchardville took the advantage by scoring three quick touchdowns in the second period. Again in the third period Argyle held its foe scoreless while collecting seven points of its own. From then on it was Blanchardville's game until late in the final period when Argyle fought to the one-foot line and was in possession when the gun sounded. Have patience and we'll jell next year! ! ! 30
