Class History Early in September of the year 1951, we the class of 55 , numbering forty-seven strong, stepped inside the door of Argyle High. We were one of the largest classes ever under supervision of our commander in chief, Principal P. J. Morgan. Our first assignment was to break the morale of an enemy six-man line. We maneuvered a float We Smell Dee-Feet . This began our freshman year of higher learning. The Sophomores initiated us into the ranks by the humiliation of making us wear pajamas and other outlandish clothing and the further indignities of grease paint, fingernail polish, and pin curls. Mr. Philip Helegesen took us to Monroe where we were eye witnesses' to a court session. He also directed our campaign of a school-wide mock election in conjunction with a national election. The first assignment of our Sophomore year was to construct afloat depicting the downfall of the homecoming enemy, New Glarus. We termed it Swiss Stew for '52 , and received the highest citation of merit on it. Then it was our chance to initiate the green freshies of the incoming class into the spirit of Argyle High. The girls were asked to serve as waitresses at the Jr.-Sr. banquet. They managed everything without a mishap. In this second year we were the chief magazine salesmen and leaders of the March of Dimes drive. We sponsored a bake sale where we raffled off a duck for $17.60. Our class was depleted by the passing out of Roger Hansen, JoAnne Isely, John Meyer, Richard O'Rourke, Gloria Severson, Frances Ostby, Robert Sweeney, Joyce Sweeney, Carol Dover, Irene Trickel, and Fritz Treuthardt. We gained Gary Lewis and Rose Blum who transferred from other schools. This brought us a grand total of thirty-eight members. We entered our Junior year of A. H. S. with thirty-two members. Beverly Belzer joined us but left before the year was completed. Others who left our ranks were Peggy Foesch, Betty Hendrickson, Shirley Wells, and Dorothy Collins . This was the year we received our class rings, officially making us upper classmen. We launched another homecoming float entitled Clean Up Brooklyn . Our next project was the Jr.-Sr. banquet, honoring the soon departing Seniors. Our theme was In an Old Dutch Garden . After we regained our bearings from the banquet we started planning for the high-light of the Junior year--our Junior Prom. The theme was Candy Carnival which we carried out by red and white streamers, candy canes, and hundreds of vari-colored balloons. King Roger Bright and Queen Ann Morgan reigned over the affair accompanied by Dan Garson's orchestra. We completed our third year with the decoration of the Senior Baccalaureate and Graduation. Now we are concluding our fourth year as sophisticated seniors with a crew of thirty-four. At homecoming we presented another float entitled We're Four Beating O. H. S. . Our Queen Mary Lou Skattum was crowned at the half-time ceremonies of the football game by Captain John Flannery. We were kept busy editing the school paper, Best Years , and the 1955 issue of Treasured Echoes . Our Senior year was filled with a great variety of activities and programs. We anticipate the moment when we receive our diplomas and graduate from this, our beloved Argyle High. These four years have been filled with much happiness. The memories of our high school days and the friendships we have made will never be forgotten.

Football Team Season History The Crioles had a mediocre 3 to 5 record but this does not tell the full story. At times throughout the season the Crioles looked like champions but did not maintain the pace. Since 16 of the 36 recruits returning were lettermen a better season was expected. In their first game they defeated South Wayne, a non-conference foe 24 to 0. However, the next week they were defeated by Brooklyn 19 to 6. Thirsty for victory they bounced back to defeat Orfordville 32 to 12. The following week they were defeated by Brodhead 20 to 7 but again they bounced back, this time to defeat Juda 31 to 19. They dropped their final 3 games to Belleville, Blanchardville, and New Glarus. Argyle scored a total of 124 points for the season but allowed opponents 141 points. Three members of the team are graduating, they are John Flannery, Gary Lewis, and Izzy Penniston. We wish the boys next year a successful season.
