DES MOINES - The scrap- py Argyle girls denied the pressing odds of defeat yes- terday afternon to rally back from a 33-17 third quarter deficit and defeat Farragut 53-50 in a first round state tournament game at Des Moines Veterans Auditorium Janet Lind dropped in a shot with 37 seconds remain- ing to give Argyle the victory topping a 24 point perform- ance for the evening that paces the Argyle fourth qu r ter sulurge Pre state score Argyle opened its 1959 bid for state laurels in the Farm ington sectional tournament where thev put aside Den mark Farmington and Mont rose in succession to advance to the Fairfield district tourn ament At Fairfield they mov 40 by Lund Janet Lind s 40 point effort was to no avail producing her best performance of the year She 'was accompanied by the 25 point assistance of Carolyn Doyle and 14 by Judy McCarty but the late Rockwell surge .fgjnjfg court set was granted honor able mention along with Larry Giels of Coach Chuck Merritt s Argyle Panthers Iowa State Bank Fort Madison Iowa ed mto the finals -on two squeakers, defeating Douds 4944.and eked out Ollie 48- 46. In the district finals two weeks ago Danville proved no easy touch but Merritt's nifty six proved their superiority with a 42-36 victory.
