1985 HIGHLANDER ARGYLE, NEW YORK TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION 2 SENIORS 14 UNDERCLASSMEN 34 ACTIVITIES 60 PEOPLE 76 SPORTS 86 ADVERTISING 107 29TH EDITION DEDICATION We, the Class of 1985, dedicate our year- book to Mr. and Mrs. Pendergrass. Mrs. P came to A.C.S. as an elementary aide in 1972 the same year that we came as kinder- garteners. She escorted us on journies to the kitchen to get our snacktime milk, and to the bathroom where her patience was tested by those of us who took a little longer than necessary. She was always there to tuck us in at naptime. Mac has been a favorite of ours ever since we used to greet him in the cafeteria with an enthusiastic Hi Mac! Eleven years later things haven't changed; we still greet our great friend with Hi Mac! As we leave Argyle we are just beginning our careers while the Pendergrasses are ending theirs. They will be missed by thier co-workers, the teachers, and us. “Mac and Rosemary Pendergrass. SOME OF OUR FACULTY Can I kiss him in the play, Mr. Smith? Feel that beat, man! First dates are scary! Oh no! Two Marions at school! Mr. Polunci wrestles a wild projector. 3 PEP RALLY Ready and waiting .. take this, Joe . Follow me! Ha, Ha, Ha! Don't you feel dumb? A pep ralley is for all students who are in winter sports. Cheerleaders get the crowd doing cheers and chants to get psyched for the big game that night. Earlier in the week certain events took place such as Argyle Sock Day, Be Nice To A Player Day, Garnet and Gray day, and Spirit Day. On Garnet and Gray Day, if anyone saw Mr. Patzwald with his legs crossed, they would have noticed he wore one gray sock and one garnet sock. Meanwhile, Argyle Sock Day was complete when Mr. Miller came dressed in a pair of knickers and gray Argyle socks. Students were busy all week long making posters to try to win the poster contest. The winner of this contest got to throw the pie at the senior basketball player with the most money in his jar. This year Joey Lester Lufkin got the pie thrown in his face by Tony Howe and Chris Scoville. 4 6 'Kugie' ■ . HALLOWEEN ’ CANADA r 9 Where is this trip taking us? Canadian Olympics? YEARBOOK STAFF Consisting of a handful of dedicated Seniors and a group of helpful Juniors, this year's staff made a determined effort to make our yearbook the best ever. Along with the guid- ance and planning of Mrs. Strode, our advisor, we succeeded in meeting the deadlines, sometimes with only minutes to spare. In the end the headaches, the hassles, and the long hours resulted in a publication which we are confident is a true record of our years at A.C.S. Advising the chief of his rights. Without their guidance throughout high school and pushing us to get various things sold we probably wouldn't be going to Washington, D.C. in the spring. Again we would like to thank our class advisors for everything because we probably couldn't have done it without them. Now it is time for us to move on and all go our separate ways, but we will never forget all the memo- ries of ACS. We have gone from kindergarten nap time to the many senior decisions and plans for the future. We would also like to say goodluck to our underclass- men with the rest of their years at ACS. Our Junior Prom was held May 11, 1984 at the Queensbury Hotel. The theme was Heaven with music by 107Q. We were transformed that night from sloppy teenagers to ladies and gentlemen in tuxes with tails and gowns with hoop skirts. As we sat down to a meal of turkey and roast beef we ate very carefully and cautiously so as not to spill a thing on our clothes. Then 10 o'clock rolled around and the new 1984 court was announced. Before we knew it our Junior Prom was over. It was a night filled with memories that none of us will ever for- get. 33 CLASS OF ’86 First row: K. Bailey, C. Lutz, E. Lutz, W. Fellows, J. Cuilla, D. At the end of Junior year, before that final step into Senior year, there loom the Regents exams. Ev- eryone must prove himself in social studies and English, but besides these two mandated tests there are Regents in chemistry, math, and French which a fair number of Ju- niors take as well. Thus the Junior year becomes one long cram course occasionally punctuated by money raising projects like the magazine drive early in the fall. After clear- ing the financial and academic hur- dles, next year's Seniors will truly be able to say, We've made it! 37 CLASS OF ’87 ■ ’ Oh no! Here comes mom First row: T Sanders. K. McFarren, J. The soph- omore class will be selling candy at the Argyle bas- ketball games along with other various candy sales to raise money this year. They learn to socialize by getting along with others, working cooperatively, and shar- ing toys, books, and games. FHA HERO is the home economics club for 7-12 students. This after-school organization has planned and carried out sever- al activities: a Halloween Carnival, a Thanksgiving dance, a Christmas party with community involvement, and a Winter Ball. These activities, along with a linen calendar and bumper sticker sales have provided FHA HERO with the means to raise funds for the April state meeting in Niagara Falls. This annual meeting allows state affiliated FHA HERO members to share a weekend of workshops and activities related to leadership skills and Home Economics. The Art Club, under the guidance of Mr. Fleury, is an enriching experience for its members. Artists in the community are invited to come and demonstrate, and trips to museums are held.
