PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1967 There's an ancient story about a man who was getting ready to make a long journey. He called his servants to him, and to one he entrusted five talents; to another, two talents; and to another, one talent. The man who received the five talents invested them wisely, and doubled the money before the owner came back home; and, in the same way, the man who received the two talents invested them and doubled his money; but the man who had received only the one talent dug a hole in the ground and buried the money. When the owner came back, he called in the three servants. To the two servants who had used their talents wisely he said, “Well done, you are good and faithful men. You have taken care of a few things well, and now you will be made ruler over many things. But the man who had received the one talent came and said, “I was afraid, so I hid your money where it was safe and here you have what is coming to you. And the owner said, “You lazy rascal! You know I expected a return on my investment. He gave the one talent to the man with ten talents and let the one-talent man go. Now in this old story, a talent was a lot of money. The word “talent also means ability, and when a person uses his ability to the fullest extent, his ability grows and grows. What do you need to be a ten-talent man? The man who can get the small jobs done, using whatever opportunities are at hand, is likely to be picked for bigger jobs. A ten-talent man finds out. He makes himself known as a man who never boasts, never makes excuses or alibis, but who finds out. He does what, to the less persistent, seems impossible. He finds out how to find out and he gets results. You, members of the Class of 1967, are graduating from high school because you found out. Be a ten-talent man - keep finding out. Congratulations, HAROLD U TUCKER
