TVitl The class of 1948 of Argyle Central School, County of Washington, State of New York, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby pronounce this our last will and testament. We hereby bequeath to Mr. J. C. Hungerford and Mrs. Miriam Rooke our sincere appreciation for their guidance and helpfulness during our high school years. To the Faculty we leave the memory of our Angelic faces. To the Juniors we leave our books in hopes that they will study more than we did. To the Sophomores and Freshman and to all the school class best wishes for happy and successful school years. We. the Seniors leave our pet loves and hates as follows: MERRITT REYNOLDS: leaves his tallness to Billy Brayman. MARJORIE TRIPP: wills her stubborness to Mildred White. ROBERT YARTER: wills his curly hair to Francis Pelkey. DOROTHY NELSON: wills her ability to get along with others to Beatrice Bennett. MARY REID: bequeaths her ability to play the tuba to Dick Harrington to keep the band playing. RUTH MAHAFFY: wills her nicknames to Betty Langworthy. RUTH MCGEOCH: wills her religious inclinations to Donald Durkee. JOSEPHINE RICE: leaves her guiltiness and friends from South Glens Falls to anybody who would appreciate them. BETTY TRIPP: wills her blushes to Victor Ruby. GERALD GAMBLE: wills his admiration for girls to Rowland Knowlton. TEDDY OLSEN WICK: leaves his athletic ability to BOBBY SHARPE in hopes that it will give the Basketball team the ability to capture the championship. JEWEL STOUT: wills her Red hair to Clara Reynells. to match her temper. RAE RICHARDS: wills her love for Hudson Falls to Dorothy Rice. We hereby appoint the first grade as executors of this our last will and testament. In January 1940, while in the fourth grade, we came to the newly completed Argyle Central School. Bernice Mac Whorter was then our teacher. There were twenty-five of us in the class, and Merritt Reynolds is the only boy left that is still with us. During this year we raised money by selling pencils, crayons, and erasers. In the year 1940 and 41 Eileen Me Whorter was our teacher. This year we sold candy. In sixth grade we had a very enjoyable year with Madeline Me Geoch as our teach- er. We sold paper to the students this year. Two new classmates joined us. Bob Yarter and Jerry Gamble. Even though we had had fun in the grades downstairs we were anxious to go up- stairs into Junior High. Mildred Bristol was our teacher in seventh grade. Eighth grade was another pleasant and profitable year, with Mrs. Eva Braymer as teacher. On June 6, 1944 we made a trip to Albany. In Albany we visited the State Capitol, Educational Building, State Office Building-Observation Tower, and went shopping. Some of us had fun riding in the elevators in the capitol. At our eighth grade graduation with 19 members we presented a program entitled—Songs of America. Our class motto was—“Never Give Up,” Class colors were blue and gold. Class flowers were sweet peas. This was the last eighth grade graduation to be held in Argyle. Under the guidance of Mr. Garman we carried out our Freshman year in the Lab. One of our big activities this year was a dance on which we made ninety dollars. In 1945 and 46 we entered our Sophomore year and had as our advisor Mr. Hunger- ford. This year we spent downstairs in the shop. Again in our Junior Year we had Mr. Hungerford as our advisor. Practically all our money we made this year was $70.00. Most of this was made when the Junior class and the F.F.A. presented a play, “Hep Fixes Things.” In September 1947 we started our Senior year in the shop under the guidance of Mr. Hungerford, but later in the year we moved upstairs and had Mrs. Rooke as our counsellor. This year we made ourselves wealthy. First, we started out with a turkey supper and made $175.00; on October 31, we conducted a Halloween dance with Stan Kellogg’s orchestra and took in $120.00. November 14 was the night on which we demon- strated our talent. Under the direction of Mrs. Rooke and with the help of some Juniors we presented a play, “Granddad Steps Out.” This was a huge success and we cleared $250.00. Other activities that we sponsored were selling ball point pens, Slim Skellet. a bask- etball game, a box social and card party. Our hard work earned us sufficient capital so we could spend seven days In N. Y. and Washington. We are sure that New York will never be the same again. We left parts of Washington intact for the Juniors to visit next year. All in all, the Seniors have enjoyed their many and varied experiences and leave with best wishes to everyone.
