On Uctoher Q6 the faculty attended the Lalce Shore division meeting of the lllinois State Teachers, Association. Teachers, lnstitute was held April I9 at Sterling Morton High School. V The faculty attended a conlverence on guidance and student personel worli on Novemher 21 at North- western University. The program was arranged in accord- ance with the heliel' that each teacher and administrative otlicer has definite guidance responsihility. ln Decemher the Home Room Committee suh- mitted to the lxaculty lor approval an outline ol' a tentative lour year- home room program. 'lihe general aim ol this home room activity is: To guide the student to see the delinite relation between learning and living so that he may desire additional training and also malce important decisions toward his lilhe worli. XVorlcing with Mr. XVingo in this guidance plan- ning are lvliss Hendershot, chairman, and lvour other mem- hers ol the lxaculty: hliss Broom, lwiss Reynolds, lxfliss Steadry, and Mr. Johnston. The committee meets olten to discuss and to plan materials to he used, prohlems which are localized and adapted to the needs ol? the stu- dents lwor each year in high school. Perhaps the most interesting ol the monthly teachers, meetings was the Fehruary one concerning the Michigan and the lVlassachusetts codes ol ethics lor teachers. The teachers hrought out the many problems concemed and discussed educational procedures involved. ' A committee appointed to malie a study of educa- tional procedures involved in the use of the sixty minute class period are lwiss Field, lvliss Phillips, Mr. liusenda. and Mr. Hauswalcl. This hour session, which will replace the forty minute period, is one way ol' maliing the hest of crowded school conditions. Today the faculty and students are worlcing with the principal to malce Argo Community High a happy school that aims at the highest standard of secondary education . . . complete and worthy living. A resume of faculty activities shows that much effort is being put forth to improve the quality of instruc- tion and to lceep abreast of the times in educational methods. An extensive program was observed Education Week, November 9 to 15, when there were daily assem- blies, at which various teachers tallied on assigned sub- jects pertaining to some phase of education. Une of the main purposes ot the ambitious program was to impress upon the students the vast improvement which the schools of today show over the schools of the past. lt is believed that when the students realize how fortunate they are in opportunities they will be more eager to talce advantage ol them. Speakers were: introductory Remarks, Mr. Haus- Waldg The Changing Curriculum, Miss Steadryg New Service to the Community, Mr. Grossg Unfinished Busi- ness of Education, lvliss Reynolds: Education for Physical Fitness, Mr. ,Iohnstong and Financing Americas Schools, Mr. Wingo. The following faculty members represented their respective departments at state meetings: lndustrial Arts, Mr. Van Emang Music, Mr. Grossg English, Mr. Haus- wald. Miss Steadry attended the Home Economics Con- vention at Quincy Qctober Q9 and 30, and Mr. Johnston, attended the state physical education meeting at Cham- paign, March 17-20. Principal Charles E. Wingo met notables in the educational realm the Weelc of February 19 at New Qrleans, where he attended the program arranged by the Department of Superntendence of the National Edu- cation Association. The Argo Summit XVoman,s Club were guests of the faculty at a Thanksgiving program and Tea Novem- ber 25. A reception was held in the portable after the program. 1121
