A YEAR TO REMEMBER Most of you probably do not remember very much about your 1st grade; who your friends were, what your school was like, what you did for entertainment, etc. Except for pictures and faint memories, times that long ago are vague and distant. It may seem almost as if a part of your past has disappeared forever. The memories of the yearbook staff hope that this will not become another one of those years that quickly fades in mem- ory. Instead, we hope it is a “year t0 remember.” We have tried hard to put pictures in the book that are relevant to student life. This year was full of memories that we hope we have captured. That’s why we chose the theme we did to help people recognize the importance of every year of their high school years. This year has been special to us, because it has also been our last. We hope you have enjoyed your yearbook and we hope you enjoy this one. From the first day of school until the end of graduation cere- monies we hope that you can look back fondly on the 1987-88 school year. We really believe this has been a “year to remem- ber. The Editors

Our Exchange Student This year we welcomed Renata Chau, a foreign exchange student from Brazil, into our school. Com- ing from Rio de Janiero, a city of about 11 million people, was quite a change for her. However, the school she went to was smaller than A-O; she attend- ed a private school with about 150 students. Although she disliked school lunches (they were her least favorite part of high school), Renata liked many things about school. Homecoming, the stu- dent council, the people, and even the classes she took were some of the things she enjoyed most. She did notice some differences between her school and ours, though. The size was a major difference, and we receive more homework here at A-O. We were happy to have Renata share her year with us. She’s a sweet, funny, charming girl who affected everyone in a special way. Before she left, Renata wanted to say, “Thanks to all students and faculty for making my senior year here fun.” 4 Exchange Student
