Through these eleven years, he taught and helped many students, and the 1977-78 Pilot staff would like to dedicate this yearbook to him. He will never be forgotten, and his unique laugh will always linger through the halls of Argenta-Oreana High School. Superintendent MR. HAROLD A. MILLER Eastern Illinois University Secretary MRS. Luggage was checked for those little things which we are too young to have but luckily nothing was found and the trip went on as scheduled. We loaded up two charter buses with luggage and chaperones (Mr. Bartges, Mrs. Brinkotter, Mrs. Edwards and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wallace). They did a good job of keeping an eye out on us but little do they know how many little beady eyes we had on them. Many of us were impressed by the busses which were a big switch from our little yellow school busses. I believe we spent the first 2 0 minutes of our trip messing around with all the little knobs and buttons. Our first stop was at the Gateway Arch which was very impressive. After the visit to the Arch we went to eat at Burger Chef. Needless to say it was not unusual. The St. Louis Zoo was our next stop before going to the hotel. We toured the zoo for a while but the rain started pouring so hard we decided to turn back. We headed for the Holiday Inn a little early but none of us minded since it meant a nice hot shower and food. At the hotel we played pinball, swam, gossiped, goofed off, and somehow or other everyone managed to get into their proper room on time (midnight). The next morning at 8:30 we were on our way to the Brewery. After the tour of the Brewery we hit downtown St. Louis for a little bit of shopping, followed by a trip .to Grant's Farm. Being a bunch of small town kids we were not overly impressed, except for the goats that were running all over the place like a bunch of Freshmen looking for their rooms on the first day of school. We then headed back to the hotel for a quick change, and then headed on to Six Flags. Everyone had a blast at Six Flags, but we were ready to head home at midnight. We arrived into Argenta at 3 a. m. May 13. Row 1: Mr. Wolf, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Luedke, Miss Clark, Mrs. Edwards, Sponsors. Family Living Class Plans Mock Wedding This year's family living classes experienced the planning and effort that goes into making a wedding a success. Mr. Thomas expressed his appreciation to the students for their cooperation and participation and commented: Today, marriage as an institution is being threatened by a morality crisis. To many, this 'most treasured moment of your life' ends with bitter memories. If I as an instructor, can direct a thought in appreciation to what God has ordained, if I can lead a student to see that marriage and the family is the moral represen- tation of a good society, then I can rest assured that I have given to my students something of great value. Homecoming 1977 This year's homecoming began with the traditional bonfire and snakedance on Thursday night. On Friday there was excite- ment in the air. Everyone was hurrying around to put last-min- ute touches on their floats. Dur- ing half time of the football game, it was learned that the Junior class had captured first place with their theme, Mur- der on the Bomber Express, the Sophomore class won sec- ond with a theme of Bombers Flew Over the Eagle's Nest, the Freshman class placed third with the theme of Star Wars--The Force Is With Us. The Bombers had more to cel- ebrate when the football team beat the Deland-Weldon Eagles 21-8. On Saturday night Tammy Edgecombe and Kevin Ripley were crowned Queen and King at the coronation by last year's Queen Vicki Rosenbery and King Roger Hupp. The theme for the dance was Movies. Phil Eubanks and the Union Boulevard provided the music.
