Mrs. Bertha Parks Dedication We, the Yearbook Staff, dedicate the 1974-1975 edition of the Pilot to Mrs. Bertha Parks, teacher and yearbook advisor. For her many years of faithful dedication in helping organize the Pilot, we the staff feel it is only right to dedicate this yearbook to her. She has put so much time and effort into the preparation of our yearbook. Mrs. Parks always remains calm and cool even when only a few members of the staff attend meetings, when there is nothing done a day before the deadlines, and when there are no pictures developed on time. She deserves many thanks and much gratitude for her wonderful years of service. Thank you, Mrs. Parks, from the Pilot staff of '75! A dminhtration Superintendent Mr. Harold A. Seniors Not Pictured Individually: James Everett Alexander Win ford Ray Boleyn Mary Colleen Davis Gary Francis Fedie Kevin Joseph Ryan Teresa Michelle Wilkey 31 Yurie Han abusa Exchange student from Japan. American family- The Emil Morsch’s I was scared to go to school as a stranger. Thanks to allof you for your friendliness towards me. Iam really sorry that I could only get to know a part of the students in this school. School life is much different from my school. My school in Japan is a girls' school with 1500 girls. Homecoming, Prom, the plays, and foot- ball games were new activities for me. Japan is a small island country, so many young people want to come to big America. In Japan, especially in Tokyo, there are always many people crowded in a small area. At first, I coula not believe my eyes because there are no mountains and haraly any people around here. For me even downtown Chicago seems very small compared to Toyko. (11-1 2 million people population.) Many people have asked me if I had had ham- burgers in Japan. I always answer that we have many McDonald's, Burger Kings, Kentucky Friea Chickens and so on in Japan (Toyko). We eat American food every day along with Japa- nese food. Since I like American food better than Japanese food, I have enjoyed it here. I have had many new experiences in the United States. I will miss Argenta and will never forget the kindness of everyone who made it possible for me to spend this year as an ex- change student. Iraida Flores Exchange student from Ecuador. American family- The Walt Query's. My first days in school were very different because when I came to America I could speak very little English, and I could not communi- cate. Changing classes was a challenge at first be- cause in Ecuador we have 13 different subjects, but we stay in the same room all day all year. We don't have cafeterias, but we go home for lunch. Ecuadorian food is prepared differently; how- ever, we have about the same types of foods except for pizzas, McDonald's, hamburgers and fries. This was my first time to see snow. I was sur- prised how cold it was. I learned many things about this country and the way people live. Teen-agers have more lib- erties than tne teens do in Ecuador. My days in America have become a part of me, and I ap- preciate all of the help everyone gave at all times. The past few months have been very happy because I understand English better and I feel more a part of your community. The thought of leaving Argenta saddens me, but I leave with pleasant memories of friends and teachers. I thank each of you very much for an oppor- tunity to share a year with you. Everybody worked on floats, the band practiced, the gyms were decorated, and the big game was antici- pated. The festivities began Friday with a pep march and a bonfire. Saturday was a beautiful day for a parade. Three prizes were awarded for the best floats. Third prize was captured by the junior class with the theme Pepto Bismal for Upset Panthers. Second place was awarded to the French Club's J'ai un 'BOSSU' Gagnerons” with the Hunchback of Notre Dame. The judges chose Pound 'em presented by the class of '75 as the first place float. The Bombers put up a good fight against the Leroy Panthers. But luck was not with us Saturday afternoon as the Panthers passed us with a score of 12 to 0. Brenda Wheeler and Scott Doane were crowned queen and king that evening while the theme song from Romeo and Juliet played in the background. Flat Lands furnished the music for the dance follow- ing the coronation. Homecoming '74 was an exciting event for all.
