The play depicted life in a society where the thoughts and actions of the citizens of Oceania were ruled by the oppressive and cruel Big Brother. The audiences were favorably impressed by the performances and the intimate band-room- turned-theater atmosphere, but the story of Win- ston Smith (Morris Dixson) and Julia ISheri Rossi) and their struggle against Big Brother was understandably disturbing. Queen Shelley and King Chuck Homecoming ’73 Homecoming '73 proved to be a huge success for all who participated in the weekend activities. The festivities began with a pep rally in which the seniors won the spirit stick. Continuing the spirit, the student led a pep march through town and ended the evening with a bonfire held at the school grounds. Saturday turned out to be a wet and rainy day for the Homecoming events. The parade was greeted by many people lining the streets. Of the many floats entered in the parade, only three could be chosen for prizes. Third prize was awarded to the sophomore class for their very colorful and original theme of Bomb the Bunnies • a bomber dropping football bombs. Capturing second prize was A O Express created by the French Club. The judges acknowledged the senior float as the best by awarding the seniors first place for their version of The Fall of the House of Fisher. Saturday was not a good football day for the Fisher Bunnies. As the game was played, the A-O Bombers showed the Bunnies just what football was all about. They roared past Fisher for a 21 12 victory. The theme song of the coronation and dance, Autumn, played in the background as Shelly Lewis and Chuck Weatherford were crowned Queen and King of the 1973 Homecoming. Esquire played for the dance which followed the coronation. A sec- ond dance which featured Victorian Station took place in the Com- munity Building for the Alumni. All in all. Homecoming '73 was a successful event which was enjoyed by all who attended and participated. They have fourteen varsity cross-country letters out of a possible sixteen. Four years of hard work have helped these fours guys compile a 44-26 record over four years at varsity level. Kevin Williams and Fletcher Dahman have both lettered all four years while Tony Richars and Randy May have lettered three each. Tony Richars placed eighteenth in the district meet in which the team finished fifth, and got to advance to the sectional meet. This is the first time ARGENTA has gotten past the district. The yearbook, and surely the school as a whole, wishes to congratulate these men on the fine performance they have had while in high School-Good Luck. “Friend’s Sreek Library” Kevin Williams 4-year letterman ROW 1: Manager R. Bombers Enjoy Exciting Year Argenta-Oreana's 1973 Varsity Football Season was surprising, if not dynamic. The Bombers opened their season with a 0-18 defeat to Fairbury. The next week we traveled to our Arch-rival Maroa where we reversed our past defeat to a 19-0 victory. One week later we traveled to Leroy with high hopes of a victory, but a 6-14 defeat came to us with much disappointment. Whenever the fourth game rolled around, we played on our home field and apparent- ly this was to our advantage. We came out with a 42-21 victory. With high spirits from the past week we traveled to Deland ruining their homecoming festivities. We had a 20-6 defeat. At home again the following week we beat Farmer City 20-0. Our next game was Homecoming. Although it was rainy and cold our Bombers came through with a 21-12 victory over Fisher. We went to Heyworth for our last game of the season. Running a very close game it ended with a 14-14 tie. The fighting Bombers of Argenta-Oreana ended their season with a 5-3-1 record. A season comes and a season goes, but the memory remains forever. Remember the 1973 Fighting Football Bombers. To get into Varsity Club you must receive a varsity letter in one of Argenta-Oreana High School's six sports; Cross-Country, football, basket- ball, wrestling, track, or baseball. This year's Varsity Club is composed of fifteen seniors, sixteen juniors, six sophomores, and one freshman. This year's seniors have accumulated a total of sixty - nine varsity letters, Fletcher Dahman and Tony Richars head the way with eleven each. Argenta- Oreana's future in sports looks promising with all of the underclassmen in Varsity Club. Good Luck to the seniors, hopefully, they will continue to make Argenta-Oreana famous in the way of sports. Row 1: S. Smallwood-1, S. McMahon-3, K. Witts-2, L. Badman-6, S. Doane-6, R. Benz-3, B. Company '74 is a very active and creative group of students which is involved in the drama department. Anyone who is in any kind of play-class play or school play-is in Company '74. Each year each class puts on its own play. The class takes care of everything-sound, lighting, props, etc. This year Company '74 put on several good performances. They were NIGHT OF ONE ACTS, MR. SCROOGE, and 1984. Company '74 has been loaded with talent, and we're sure Company '75 will be just as greatI Company ’74 The Argenta-Oreana High School Science Club was organized to foster the interest of science through sponsorship of scientific act- ivities at the high school level. The primary goal of the dub is to encourage each of its members to prepare a project in their sci- entific field of interest The students are given the opportunity to present the results of their scientific research project at a local science exposition each year. Projects that are judged outstanding are allowed to compete at a regional science exposition which is sponsored by the Illinois Jr. Academy of Science. Our students com- pete with students from eleven counties at the regional exposition. Student projects which are judged outstand- ing at the regional exposition are eligible to compete in a State Exposition which is held in May each year at the Assembly Hall at the University of Illinois. The Argenta-Oreana Chapter of the National Honor Society functions strictly as an honorary organization. Membership in this group is con- sidered one of the highest honors that the school can confer. The object of the chapter is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the students of Argenta-Oreana High School. A student must maintain at least a B average to be eligible for membership. Teacher ratings of a students's character, leadership ability, and ser- vice to school determine the membership which is composed of 5% of the sophomore class, 10% of the junior class, and 15% of the senior class. An induction ceremony for new members is held each year at the annual Award's Night program. Office Helpers C. Weatherford, K. Musick, T. Richars, S. Lewis, C. McKinney, J. Hornback, C. Bennett, M. The Industrial Arts Club had several interesting act- ivities this year. Forty junior and senior dub mem- bers took a trip to Caterpillar. We thought this was a very good idea since Caterpillar will be the future place of employment for many graduates. Althought we did not have time to tour all the buildings, the trip was very interesting. The dub also sponsored a speaker from Lincoln Technical Institute, which has to do with auto me- chanics. He showed a film about the institute that covered scholarships and the different study plans, and answered any questions we might have had. The Industrial Arts Club also builds the queen attendants' float for Homecoming. This float is not in the judging, but we have had some very good floats in the past years and would like to get this float in the judging. The Industrial Arts Club has sixty members. Mem- bership is open to students who are taking or have taken Industrial Arts. 63 Row 1: Fletcher Dahman, Mrs. Parks, advisor; Karen Hood, Scott Doane, Donna Edwards, Kim Longest, Cathy Mulhol and, Jan Shuey. Has Varied Sports Year The varied sports activities in G.A.A. can offer something for everyone. This year's G.A.A. events started with archery and 2nd place in the Play Day shooting contest. Following archery were the lively and invigorating sports of swimming and volleyball. Next came Modern Dance and a program showing the gracefulness of some of the G.A.A. members. Getting the ball straight down the alley was the object of many G.A.A.'ers who participated in bowling. Two more sports in the schedule were badminton and basketball; both were fun for everyone involved. Wrapping up the sports season for G.A.A. were gymnastics and softball. It was a big year for G.A.A. filled with fun and varied sports. The President of G.A.A. this year was Shelley Lewis with Karen Hood serving as Vice-President. Debbie Kramer was elected Secretary-Treasurer along with Elaine Creamer as Point Chairman and Cheryl McKinney as Scrapbook Chairman. The Senior Leaders were elected to help with activities related to P.E. leadership and responsibility. Some of their duties are to take roll and G.A.A.'s advisor, Mrs. Hays.
