Susanrte Wintgen The United States of America, what a dream, but it became true for me, me, the sixteen-year-old student from Hochdahl, West Germany! In the beginning I couldn't believe I was really here, but when I looked around, yes, it was reality, Argenta-Oreana High School, Illinois, U.S.A. These were my thoughts in the beginning of my exchange year, and I shall sometimes wonder if it is true, why should I have the privilege of coming over here? I still don't know why, but here I am anyway, and I try to make the best out of my year by learning as much as I can as well as by having fun. I've already seen a lot during my stay in the U.S.A. For example, on my trip from Philadelphia I saw Gettysburg and the famous Hershey Chocolate Town . I saw regions I've never seen before. Pennsylvania reminded me of my home, and Illinois really looks like the Prairie, as we think about it in Germany. And then, in summer I've been on a canoe trip in Canada, and it was one of the most exciting adventures I've ever had, next to coming over here. I don't think I'll ever forget this summer that brought so much to me, so many new friends, and a lot of experience of that I know I'll always need. And then school started, and it was exciting and new for me. Many things have happened since then. Homecoming, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and Semester Change, and here I am, Senior, and nearly finished with school. Only a few more months are left, then I've to leave, and who knows what is written in my stars! I want to say thank-you to all the people of Argenta and Oreana, and especially the students who made it possible for me to come over here, to let me have a great experience, and to get to know a lot of friends. I hope, both will last for my whole life, as well as I hope you maybe will remember me, the foreign exchangee from Germany. I hope I was a good representative for my country! On the morning of October 23, 1971, the alumni, faculty members, and students of Argenta-Oreana High School awakened to a cold and dreary day. The rain was expected to come at any time. But the bright spirits of all made Homecoming a complete success. The parade was good with its beautiful floats, which were submitted by the various clubs and classes. The junior class float, Can the Bulldogs, had a slight accident before the parade started. However, they were able to repair it and received third prize in the judging. Second prize was awarded to Sophomore class for their float Expecting a Victory, and The Brew of '72 captured first prize for the Seniors. The afternoon added even more to the spirit of the day as the Bombers were once again victorious. Our football team bombed Mahomet-Seymour 16-0. The minute the game concluded, it started raining. At the coronation, Todd Rice and Judy Jones were crowned as this year's king and queen. After the coronation. Hickory Point provided music for the student's dance, while the Marksmen entertained the alumni.
