We were guided under the helpful hands of Mrs. Kirby and Mr. Wolf. Our freshman class was represented in the student council by Bernice Lewis, Pat Buckley and Tom Fritts. Being an athletic class, we were represented by Bob Disbrow, Jack Wallace, Gerry Flaugher, Curt Jackson, Dan Norbits, and Ted Elsea in B team basketball. Bernice Lewis served as Varsity Cheerleader. Attending the royal court were Linda McConkey and Judy Ferrill. We were members of such organizations as: chorus, band, Latin club, newspaper, FHA and GAA. As sophomores, we chose Jack Wallace, president; Bob Disbrow, vice- president; Dennis Koch, secretary-treasurer; and Dan Norbits, reporter. Again Mrs. Kirby and Mr. Wolf were our sponsors. Student council members were Fran Boyd and Ted Elsea. The B team basketball players were Gerry Flaugher, Duane Jackson, Dan Norbits, Bob Disbrow, Curt Jackson, Jack Wallace, and Ted Elsea. Wc were represented in track by Ted Elsea and Dan Norbits. Our three baseball players were Dennis Koch, Dan Norbits, and Bob Disbrow. Bernice Lewis was again our Varsity cheerleader and Judy Ferrill was on the Junior Varsity. Linda McConkey and Judy Ferrill were our queen attendants. We were in the organizations of newspaper, Latin club, GAA, Librarians, chorus, and band. In 1961, 33 Juniors were back at Argenta - Oreana High. In command was Jack Wallace, President; Bob Disbrow, vice-president; Bernice Lewis, secretary- treasurer; and Dan Norbits, reporter. Mrs. Kirby and Mrs. Verner were our sponsors. Fran Boyd and Ted Elsea represented us in student council. The basketball team consisted of Duane Jackson, Bob Disbrow, Ted Elsea, Jack Wallace and Jim King. Junior Varsity cheerleaders were Bernice Lewis, Judy Ferrill, and Linda McConkey. Our play Aunt Phoebe was a large success with Tim Sheehan playing the lead. The annual Junior-Senior Prom was held at the YMCA in Decatur with the theme of Rendezvous of the Stars. Our senior year found Jack Wallace as president; Dennis Koch, vice- president; Phyllis Stine, secretary-treasurer; and Sally Allen, reporter. Mr. Wilkey, Miss Cahill, and Mrs. Eddy were chosen as our sponsors. Student council members were Bernice Lewis, Eennis Koch, Jack Wallace and Frances Boyd as secretary-treasurer of the council. Bernice Lewis and Linda McConkey cheered Duane Jackson and Ted Elsea to one victory in the come back of football. Attending queen Pat Buckley and king Jack Wallace were Frances Boyd, Jim King, Judy Ferrill and Tim Sheehan. Bernice Lewis and Linda McConkey cheered for Duane Jackson, Jack Wallace, Jim King, Ted Elsea, Dennis Koch, and Gerald Flaugher in Varsity basketball. Mother is a Freshman was another successful play as Linda McConkey and Tim Sheehan played the leads. PROPHECY It was a cold stormy night. Mrs. Eddy lay awake worrying about the senior class. Oh! Those kids, she sighed. She took her last nerve pill and dozed off. Civilization now exists as it did in medieval times-the year is 1980. A king appeared arrayed in brillant robes. None other than TED ELSEA. From his left SALLY ALLEN handed him freshly made wine. Maid, send in Queen PA1 ,r Now! he stormed. Sally Allen bow;d low and went to her mistress's quarters. My Lady, PAT BUCKLEY, the king requests your presence immediately. Ugh! Ugh! she replied. As she prepared to leave SANDRA BOOZE put the finishing touches on Queen Pat's towering wig. Half way down the winding staircase DUANE JACKSON appeared in his white cook apron and hat. My Lady, the bridge across the moat hath broken. How shall I send my assistant, DENNIS KOCH, to Blueberry Hill to get flour? Go to the carpenter, DICK WIGGINS. Tell him my order to repair the bridge within the hour. Very well. My Lady. Your humble servant thanks you. Soon the bridge was fixed and DENNIS was on his way. It took but forty- five minutes to reach the mill. While the flour was being ground CHARLOTTE JUSTICE, his betrothed, motioned him into her room. On his way back he was met by King ELSEA'S scouting party. STEPHEN COOPER, BOB CUNDIFF, and GARY McVEY shouted a hello and continued on their way. The hour is seven and the ball room has been made ready. Now the guests are beginning to arrive. The draw bridge is again let down. Lord JIM KING and Lady FRANCES BOYD come riding in. There are followed by Lord JACK WALLACE and Lady KATHY BRENNAN. On came the procession. The ball was a big success but for a few minor disputes and rivalries which CURTIS JACKSON, the court jester, smoothed over. However, Lady JUDY FERRILL remained mad at Lady LINDA McConkey after a fight over Lord MAX KRUTSINGER. MAX, having been wounded in this battle, was sent to the nurse, BERNICE LEWIS. GERALD FLAUGHER and TIM URBANOWICZ brought in the wooden stretcher. CHARLES HELM, the court musician, was beginning the next waltz. Lord TIM SHEEHAN led off by whirling Queen PAT about the room. One of the cooks, PHYLLIS STINE, was so excited by the music that she began a drum solo on the pots and pans in the kitchen below. RAYMOND WALTERS sat in a corner trying to teach NANCY TAYLOR how to play Canasta, but she just couldn't catch on. She got so out of sorts that JANET MASEY had to take her out. GARY McKINNEY found Janet again in a few minutes for the next waltz. But the shock of these kids soon awoke Mrs. Eddy. Oh! Oh! Those kids, she sighed. This is one class I'll never forget. • LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT I, SALLY ALLEN, leave my pony-tail to Don Nein. I, SANDRA BOOZE, leave my quiet way to Kathy Taylor. At the first meeting the following officers were elected: Jack Wallace, Vice-President; Fran Boyd, Secretary-Treasurer; Di Anne Westerman, Reporter; Bob Fyke, Historian. One of the main projects the Student Council sponsors is Homecoming. We would like to express our thanks to all those who helped us with our first homecoming during football season. There were quite a few changes made. We think the committees did a fine job. Another project the Student Council has carried out is raising and lowering the flag each day. There was a Champaign District Convention held at Eisenhower High School November 3. We are happy to say we had a good turnout of 13 students. We are a member of the Illinois Association of Student Councils. One of the purposes of the Student Council is to try to improve the school where it is needed. We are trying to present more assemblies. The idea of planning a school flag is being discussed. Also, a way of electing cheerleaders is being discussed. We are investigating the possibility of getting a Foreign Exchange Student. Plans were started in January for next year's homecoming. We want it to be even better than this years'. The Student Council sponsored a World Clothing Drive for needy children and adults in January. Those things which were con- tributed were greatly appreciated. Thanks to those who helped. J. So far this year, we have done a fine job in carrying out the meaning of F. H. A. We have served at many organizations, such as; Lion's Club, Foot- ball banquet, and etc. They have all turned out real well for us. We have also had open house, a donut sale, and we went caroling at Christmas time. This year we started something new. Each girl, or two girls, has what they call a Secret Grandmother or Grandfather . On a holiday or on their birthday, we send them a card of some kind, signing it, your Secret Granddaughter. At the end of the year, we plan to have a party and invite them here. Then, they will find out who their Secret Grand- daughter is. We hope to make their life a little happier by doing this. G.A.A J. The band marched in the Homecoming, Veterans Day, and Santa Clause Parades. It also attended the Macon County Music Festival held at Maroa. A new project for the band this year was the starting of a Stage Band. It played some of the numbers for the Sweetheart Dance. We also sold mums for the home- coming events. The club adopted a constitution by which the club will abide. The constitution states the purpose of the club which are: to provide recognition of a Varsity Letterman, to promote greater school spirit in all school activities, to render service to the school whenever needed, to promote and improve social activities, and to present annually a gift to the athletic department. It also provides for the initiation of new lettermen. About twenty new members from football and cross-country were initiated and inducted at our initiation party. We expect 15 to 20 new members from the winter and spring sports to be initiated next fall. We have also started a scrapbook in which newspaper clippings of all athletic contests that the high school participates in will be kept. We purchased arm bands for ushering at the County Tournament and the Junior High Tournament. We have sponsored several after game mixers and, along with the G. A. A. and F. H. A , sponsored a Valentine Dance . Asst. Coach, Mr. Tolly, Head Coach, Mr. McCall, T. Urbanowicz. T. Elsea, R. French, J. Mackey, K. Smith, D. Jackson, M. King, L. Manning. R. Yetter, R.Klukis, Asst. The high point of the season was the victory over Illiopolis. The homecoming game was a close game with Niantic-Harristown winning by 6. Co-captains were Duane Jackson and Ted Elsea, who were both seniors. The season was termed as a success with the one important victory. The team was paced by Marty Kantner who was always the first Argenta- Oreana runner and quite often the first runner of the meet across the line. Joe Babb was never very far behind Marty to become our number two man. OPPONENT W L T Cerro Gordo 3 0 0 Gibson City 3 0 0 Monticello 0 2 1 Clinton 0 1 0 VARSITY R. Ragsdale, K. Smith, J. Wallace, D. BASKETBALL The 1962-63 season for the Bombers found many exciting and heartbreaking games. We were victorious over our old rivals, Maroa, for the second time in the regional. Trinity, a fine team, beat us in the second game and went on to win the regional and played in the final in the sectional. The Bombers elected Jack Wallace as the honorary captain. Joe Mackey was awarded the Free Throw trophy, and Larry Manning won the Rebound trophy. The Lettermen are as foLows: Jim King, Jack Wallace, Duane Jackson, Seniors. The returning lettermen will be Joe Mackey, Larry Manning, Bob Fyke, Robert Ragsdale, and Ken Smith. D. Rose, M. Wilks, J. Fornear, J. Fornear, E. McCammack, N. Hardin, C. Smith, L. Jones, B.
