V CLASS HISTORY In the year 1956, Argenta High School saw the entrance of an enthusiastic freshman class ably led by their president, Carol Boyd. Her assistants were vice-president, Dick Goken and secretary-treasurer, Roberta Goken. Sponsors were Mrs. Kirby and Mr. Kimler. Our fresh- man class was also represented in the student council by Marsha Fritts and Max Justice. Being a talented class, we were members of these organizations: newspaper staff, librarians, F. H. A. F. F. A. , chorus and band. Members of the basketball team included David Darnall, Max Justice and Bill Agee. Sally Rountree served as cheerleader for the basketball season. Queen attendants of the year were Joyce Mackey and Pat Hamblen. In years of 1957-1958, the sophomore class officers were president, Roberta Goken; vice- president, Dick McCammack; and secretary-treasurer, Janet Hirstein. Our sponsors were Mr. Brown and Mrs. Parilac. Activities and organizations included the newspaper staff, librarians, F. H. A. , F. F. A. , chorus and band. Student council members were Dick Goken and Jim Disbrow. Basketball team members included Max Justice, Dick McCammack, David Darnall, Douglas Paschal, and Eddie Allen. Queen attendants for the queen’s court were Janet Cooper and Carol Boyd. Roberta Goken served as cheerleader during the basketball season. Our junior year brought to command of our class president, Janet Boyd; vice-president, Robert Duncan; secretary, Marsha Fritts; and treasurer, Eddie Allen. The newspaper staff, librarians, yearbook staff, F. H. A. , F. F. A. , chorus, band and Latin Club were organizations participated in during the junior year. Members of the basketball team were Max Justice, Dick McCammack, Douglas Paschal, Steve Plappert, and David Darnall. The annual junior play was '•Cheaper by the Dozen with Jim Disbrow playing the lead. The prom was held in the YMCA Building in Decatur and the theme was With a Song in My Heart. 11 The final and most crucial year was met headlong with a stalwart group of leaders. Our president was Robert Duncan; vice-president, Janet Boyd; secretary, Roberta Goken; and treas- urer, Jim Disbrow. Organizations participated in were the newspaper staff, librarians, F. H. A., chorus, band, yearbook staff, and G. A. A. Members of the basketball team were Max Justice, David Darnall, Douglas Paschal, and Dick McCammack. Joyce Mackey served as cheerleader during the basketball season. Student council members were Janet Boyd, Jim Disbrow, and president of the student council, Marsha Fritts. Queen candidates were Janet Cooper, Donna Wilson and Roberta Goken. King candidates were Gary Haynes, Farrell Cummins and Dick McCammack. The queen was Roberta Goken and the king was Dick McCammack. CLASS After fifteen years of faithful service to Argenta Community High School. Mr. Wilkey was granted a leave of absence. This, he decided, would be a perfect time to take his family on a vacation. There was a family conference, and Disneyland was chosen as the vacation spot (the children controlled the vote). Upon arriving at Disneyland they met Miss Parks who was the personal barber for Walt Disney. It was her day off, so she decided to make the tour with them. She and Mr. Wilkey remember the year I960 when they were both sponsors of the senior class at A. C. H. S. As they enter the gates to the park, they saw a girl selling copies of Walt Disney's magazine. Mr. Wilkey's children wanted a magazine so he bought them one. He recognized BERT GOKEN as the girl selling them. Looking through the book. Miss Parks noticed the credits on the first page. She saw that CAROL KLUKIS was the editor, and SHIRLEY LOGSDON was the typist for the magazine. Shirley had reached a typing speed of two hundred fifty words per minute. They saw the entrance to Fantasyland looming ahead of them, so they decided to make that the first stop. Among the crowd they spotted Mrs. NANCY CUMMINS and her family. Nancy's four children were fighting over a sack of popcorn. As they entered Fantasyland, they heard strains of the Mickey Mouse Club theme song. Soon they saw the band marching down the street with JOYCE MACKEY as drum majorette. A baritone solo was heard, and Mr. Wilkey recog- nized it to be JIM DISBROW'S style. I always knew that boy would make something of himself, Mr. Wilkey said to Miss Parks. Then as the procession passed they saw MARSHA FRITTS being carried on the shoulders of two mouseketeers. What is she doing? Miss Parks asked a man next to her. Marsha's just been elected president of the Mickey Mouse Club, he said. It happened to be MAX JUSTICE who was talking to Miss Parks. He and DICK McCAMMACK were touring the world with a pro-basketball team. In Disneyland all the favorite fairy tales are portrayed. The Wilkey's went to Sleeping Beauty's castle first. They saw that Sleeping Beauty was JANE SHELTON. A sign on the wall said that Jane had a habit of sleeping in English class, and she just turned a habit into a vocation. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was next. Because of her dark hair and fair complexion, JANET COOPER was quickly hired for this portrayal. A sign across the street said that pictures would be taken for 10£ each. Mr. Wilkey took his children over to get their pictures taken. The photographer was SUE DeTAR. Miss Parks had been anxious to go to Adventureland to see the natives, so they went there. They boarded the boat that took them through the swamp. Mr. Wilkey and Miss Parks were both surprised to see DON MYERS piloting the boat. As they glided through the water they saw BETTY SHYER on one of the islands. What is Betty doing? asked Miss Parks. She is a missionary to the natives, replied Don. PROPHECY As the cruise ended the party realized that they were hungry. Mrs. Wilkey felt that one of her children was missing, but she didn't know which one. Mr. Wilkey blew his whistle, and all his children lined up. Shelly was missing. The family went to the information booth. Shelly was there talking to the guide in the booth, COLLEEN RICHARD. Collen told them that CAROL BOYD was the librarian in the new Library of Mickey Mouse Comic Books. Mr. Wilkey asked Colleen where wouldbe a good placeto eat. She told them that McDonalds had a place in the amusement park. They found that CHRISTINE EDGECOMBE was the new manager of one week. They found WAYNE POTRAFKA and PAT HAMBLEN working there. While eating they saw DEAN PROCTOR sitting beside them. He was a recruiting officer from Los Angeles on vacation. In the amusement park they saw DON STEPHENS working at the kiddie car stand, and JUDY DIXSON working as a ghost in the haunted house. A poster with SANDRA BEBEE'S picture on it tells them that Sandra, Walt Disney's newest artist, has just finished creating a cartoon figure, The Cool Ghoul, based on the characteristics of JANET BOYD. On their way to Tomorrowland they saw a crowd of screaming girls on one side of them and a fascinated audience on the other. The girls are clamoring for an autograph from DAVID DARNALL, Walt Disney's newest star. He is featured in the new T. V. series The Many Loves of David Darnall. The other crowd is fascinated by BUD DUNCAN'S demonstration of the new ten - speed Remington Rand electric shaver. At Tomorrowland they see EDDIE ALLEN, ED AUSTIN, and FARREL CUMMINS as a crew in the first ship to the moon. In Frontierland they see TERRY HEINZ in a saloon watching the dancehall girls, NANCY REED, JUDY BOYD, and DONNA WILSON, with SHIRLEY CUNDIFF playing a player piano in the corner. Terry tells them that he is a world reknown auto-racer. Outside they hear shouting and they run to see what is happening. Terrible TED COOPER and Desperate DICK GOKEN are about to have a showdown over ROSELYN ADAMS. LOREN HISER, the sheriff, feels that he should do something about the fight but he doesn't have the courage. Just as the men are about to draw, Mr. Wilkey heard a train whistle and hurried his tribe and Miss Parks away. Miss Parks recognized DOUG PASCHAL as the Mickey Mouse train engi- neer, and she stopped to have a word with him. The word turns into three or four hundred, and the train starts an hour late. From the train window they see GARY HAYNES driving a herd of cattle with nothing but his trusty bullwhip and a horse. A little further on they see LINDA EADS, a typical frontier housewife. After fighting with Max all her senior year, she feels capable of the job. She is baking some bread with one hand and fighting some fifty Indians with the other. Just as the Indians attack for the third time. Mr. Wilkey woke up. He got up and walked into the kitchen to tell his wife about his strange dream.
