SENIOR CLASS HISTORY While walking through the years one day, I was strangely attracted to 1955-56 and its happen- ings. Coming closer I was able to distinguish a class meeting in session. President Alvin Boyd sounded the gavel while Vice-President Gary Meritt echoed his call. Secretary Judy Stiles shuf- fled her notes and began to read the Proclamation: We, the freshly initiated students, in order to form a more perfect union do select Miss Phillips and Mr. Shadel as our sponsors; to insure domestic tranquility send Judy Richardson, Mike Stoddard, and Raymond Boyd to Student Council; to provide for the general welfare delegate Barbara Pittman and Judy Stiles to attend the queen; and to secure the blessings due to us, do establish and ordain the Freshman Class of Argenta High. 11 Its ratification was unanimous plus. As sophomores with an abundant supply of atomic energy, the year was started off with a boom The nucleus of the atom was positively made up of President Mike Stoddard, Vice-President Charles Peterson, and Secretary-Treasurer Judy Richardson. After calculations, the result of its formula was SPonSors = (Mr. ) PAriLAc£ AnD (Mr. ) StuMPhyj. The potential energy was changed into Student Council member s Judy Richardson, Mike Stoddard, Charles Peter son, and David Fear. Judy Mitchell and Joyce Musick were a part of the electrifying and breathtaking beauty of the queen's court. A great number of sophomores were in the galaxy of activities. The year of the Sophomore Satellites indeed seemed to be jet propelled. Inl957-58the clear-headed classmates rejoinedas juniors. Having a natural taste for genius, they put two and two together and got three geometric characters. The top character was Presi- dent David Archimedes Fear shouting his famous line, Eureka! after di scovering the second character, Vice-President Charles Einstein Peterson. The third one, Secretary-Treasurer Jo Raney, completed the seemingly impossible square triangle. The class multiplied their re- sources by selecting Mrs. Verner and Mr. Huff as sponsors. The queen's court, a symbol of intriguing beauty, was upheld by attendants Judy Beadleston and Jo Raney. Judy Mitchell, Judy Richardson, Charles Peterson and David Fear were among the wizards of Student Council. Of supreme importance was the added zest with which the junior play, Down to Earth, was pre- sented, caputring the individual attention of its audience. To conclude a highly successful year, a prom was given at the Lake Club with Oriental Gardens as the theme. The direct object of the final year as seniors was to achieve higher goals than ever before. In conjunction with this, Charles Peterson became president; Mike Stoddard, vice president; and Judy Stiles, secretary-treasurer. There was also no question about the ableness of the sponsors, Mr. Wilkey and Mr. Gilbert. Of capital interest was the elegance and grandeur portrayed by King Jerry McCammackand Queen Judy Stiles and their equally superb court. The subjects represent- ing this class in Student Council were Jeanette Kruse, Judy Richardson, Mike Stoddard, David Fear and Charles Peterson. The superlative Performance of the senior play, Rest Assured, again proved the capabilities of this class. Those famous words of Julius Caesar, Veni, Vidi, Vici, indicate the triumph of the Senior Class of 19 59. --Melba Largent LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the Class of 59, of the school of Argenta, in the County of Macon, in the State of Remorse, having lost both mind and memory, realizing the end is near, after serving four years of toil,do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last Will and Testament; and accordingly re- voking all former wills, bequests and testaments of any nature which we have proclaimed. To the Faculty we leave our genuine appreciation for all they have done and have tried to do for us, although it wasn't always appreciated at the time. To the Juniors we leave our outstanding ability to get things done. To the Sophomores we leave our ability to have fun both in and out of school. To the Freshmen we leave our marked an'd carved up desks; the worn out equipment; our battered and torn books as a result of diligent and constant study; and the tired, worn down, flustrated teachers. To various member s of the remaining student body we bequeath the following per sonal posses- sions: Judy Beadleston leaves her ability to play badminton to Joan Boyd. Raymond Boyd leaves the curliest part of his hair to Coach Huff. Alvin Boyd leaves his muscles to Tommy Allen. Joyce Musick leaves her down-the-hall swagger to Shirley Logsdon. David Fear leaves his height and large shoes to Mike O'Brien. Gene Phillips leaves his classroom filibustering to Terry Heinz. Jerry McCammack leaves his Kingship to Babe Allen. Charles Peterson leaves his hula hoop and the ability to use it to Mrs. Barr. Mike Stoddard leaves his fatherly disposition (remember the play) to Jim Disbrow. David Blanchard leaves his flashy shirts to Linda Eads. Dean Wilber leaves his place in bookkeeping class to Wayne Potrafka. Jack Ponewash leaves his dramatic ability to Dick Goken. Lorraine Cohea leaves her cheerleading ability to Arlen Skinner. Judy Stiles leaves her Queenship to Janet Cooper. Judy Richardson leaves her place on the Honor Roll to Gary Haynes. Judy Mitchell leaves her long nails to Marsha Fritts. Sharen Tussing leaves her typing ability to Max Justice. Barbara Pittman leaves her ability to blush to Carol Fyke. Delores Florey leaves her shortness to David Fombelle. Wilma Hebei leaves her Teen-Age Lingo to Betty Shyer. Karen Craig leaves her quiet and subdued manner to Harold Hiser. Dick Manuel leaves his winning smile to Aaron Sargent. Don Cornell leaves his slightly used English book to Doug Paschal. Jeanette Kruse leaves her long hair to Joyce Mackey. Melba Largent leaves her animated spirit to Lois Tanner. --Jeanette Kruse and Melba Largent CLASS PROPHECY Mr. Wilkey rushed busily around as he prepared for his evening guests, the Gilberts. Soon the doorbell rang, and they settled for an evening of television entertainment. The Ed Sullivan Show was the highlight of the evening because the Class of 59 seemed to be assembled with their various talents. The first act was a ballet team, WILMA HEBEL and GARY MERITT. Next came JEANETTE KRUSE and CHARLES PETERSON. They were presented with their Mouseketter ears for regu- larly watching the Mickey Mouse Show. In twenty years they had never missed a show. To add a little comedy to the show, they had JERRY McCAMMACK and his Italian dummy, DAVID BLANCHARD, with a ventriloquist act. Taking over the Number One Rock and Roll posi- tion while Elvis was in the army, was his cousin, JACK CLEVIS PONEWASH. He was con- fronted with screaming girls and left the stage with his clothes in shreds. The program was then interrupted for an A. C. H. S. News Bulletin. MIKE STODDARD had just reached the moon. He reported seeing a small settlement. When he investigated, it was DELORES FLOREY and SHAREN TUSSING. They were representatives of the Meadow Gold Com- pany sent there to investigate the possibility of a new product. Green Cheese. When we resumed the show, the famous acrobatic team, The Squatletts, were in the middle of their performance. BARBARA PITTMAN was balancing on the nead of DON CORNELL. Ed presented JUDY BEADLESTON, the new Miss America, to his audience. She was wearing an ALVIN BOYD creation. He was the award-winning designer from Paris. Next Ed asked for the house lights to be turned on, and he introduced celebrities from the audience. Among them was DAVID FEAR, center for the Harlem Space Trotters. He was high- point man for the past year, with an average of fifty points a game. DICK MANUEL, winner of Pan-American Road Race, was intioduced nest. Now we met the man we had heard about, GENE PHILLIPS. He won the Nobel Peace Prize with his Russian novel. Also introduced was KAREN CRAIG, skating star for the New York Chiefs. DEAN WILBER, Mr. Muscles, was recognized by Ed. Back on the stage, MELBA LARGENT explained some of the wrestling techniques she used in defeating JOYCE MUSICK for the lightweight championship title. We then had the pleasure of hearing and seeing the Three J's. The singing group consisted of JUDY RICHARDSON, JUDY STILES, and JUDY MITCHELL. They sang their hit record, Three Flips to Heaven. RAYMOND BOYD, winner of the recent spelling contest, was present to show off his abilities. He was asked to spell dog and promptly answered d-a-w-g. We could see why he easily won the contest. Last, but not least, came the famous starlette, LORRAINE COHEA, She was acknowledged as the winner of the award for the best actress of the year. Her winning performance was in Frankenstein's Daughter. It was a really big show, and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing how the grads of 59 had done. --Pat Hamblen and Marsha Fritts IN MEMORIAM These pages are in the memory of Dallas Leon Camfield, who was killed in an auto accident this year. Leon was a senior at Argenta. This was his first year here after attending Stephen Decatur and Eisenhower High Schools. He was an outstanding student and was on the Honor Roll. Leon was engaged to Miss Pat McClean of Mt. Zion, and they had planned a church wedding in August. One of the main activities Leon participated in was the senior play. Leonis best remembered and known by most people by the way he por- trayed one of the leading parts, the part of the kindly, little, old, Italian Luigi. Certainly everyone here at school will miss Leon deeply, for he was a friend to all. He was always cheerful and had a smile and a friendly word for everyone. None of us are apt to forget Leon, for with Leon goes a little of the brightness from our day. He will live forever in the memory of those who knew him. 44 BEST ASSURED Hi haint 'ere to peddle papers hi ain't.
