In The Beginning Before we show you what our present day Honor Socxety rs and what rt does suppose we reach back rnto that rugged country west of Bear Mountarn where the rdea was con cerved Rrght after World War l the mountain streams of the Kanowahke Valley were dammed rnto seven lakes and a serres of Boy Scout camps was started rn the wrlderness In charge of one of these camps were two young veterans recently returned from the war Walter G Seely and Arthur W Srllrman full of rdealtsm and enthusrasm Seeklng a means of motrvatrng and recognrzrng personal achrevement and unselfish servrce to the camp they developed rn cooperanon wrth the campers and thexr leaders an emblem whtch so successfully symbolrzed the rdeals of the camp that everyone seemed on hte to earn rt even though one requrrement to make a permanent rmprovement to camp often meant many hours of unselhsh labor When he became prrnclpal of Ardsley Hrgh School rn 1922 Mr Srllrman called to gether the student leaders and wrth therr cooperatron and advrce set up a school program rn the same sprrrt wrth requrrements adapted to school condrtrons embodyrng scholar shlp leadetshrp attendance conduct and servrce to the school Thus the Ardsley Hrgh Honor Socrety was rnstrtuted and the followrng became the first members of this organrzatron Paul Agnano Edward Arm Vrto Barbxerr Raymond Barnett Bennre Brown Ruth Brown Beatrrce Cannrng Constance Clayton Stafford Clayton Angellna DeMuro Conchetta DeRosa Mary DeRosa Mary Geraghty Alvrne Knell Edmund Krauss George Munck Lours Pascone Ruth Roberts Domrnrck Santore john Santore Tony Terrco Gertrude Walter Gardner Welch Florence Wheeler Gwyneth Wrllrams A group known as the Executrve Commrttee first dxrected the actxvttles of the organl zatron These students assrsted rn lunchroom and playground supervrsron and undertook such worthwhrle projects as the erectron of a tennls court the purchase of a radxo and the publrshlng of a Pep Sheet to be sold wrth the Hrgh School News Thus the qualltres of leadershrp were developed In many ways the lrfe of the school was enrlched through the unselfish servrce demonstrated by the Charter Members and by those who followed 20 l l l I I a Q u a . . , . 7 7 Q 1 1 s ' ' 7 3 ' s s a a - .
