Front Row seated Edwm Stone, Semor Patrol Leader Edwm Gawer, Donald Patterson Russell Brown Wallace Hennessy Geofirey Pollock, Jumor Assistant Scoutmaster Second Row john Crxsx, Mr Henry Woessner Asslstant Scoutmaster, Henry Woessner, James Welsford, Robert Wood Leonard Gaarder, Gerald Bostock Charles Muzzey, Donald Struckman, Mr Charles Buckes Scoutrnaster, Robert Whxte Back Row Lester MacLeod Wllham Cook, Herbert Karl Wxlllam Wilson Roul Muller, David Bren del Lyman Kxpp, Skipper White, Charles Buckes BOY SCOUTS The past year has been outstanding ln the hxstory of Troop No 3 Dunng the year we completely changed the method of operatuon and adopted the Boy Leadershxp Program Such a change takes tume and whlle m the begmnmg we estimated that xt would take two to three years to get a smooth and eflicxent orgamzatlon we are at this tnme well ahead of schedule The biggest problem seems to be recrultlng as Scout mg m Ardsley seems to have gamed the reputation of being sxssxfied although the Scout who participated ln the summer program at our Camp and Cabin can qulckly refute that opnmon Thxs attrtude represents a challenge prove to boys everywhere that Scoutmg IS a He-Boy orgamzatxon and that It takes real abxhty to reach the high standards set for Eagle Scouts We started the year wlth 19 scouts and now have a total of 26 leavmg room to take In about ten more recrults Our advancement along the Scoutmg Traxl was outstand mg in companson wnth the other troops 1n the Hendnck Hudson Councxl area We had but two Fxrst Class Scouts and no Star or Llfe Scouts but now have about 15 Flrst Class wlth Fxve Star and four Lute Scouts, with two or three Eagle Scouts due thxs year We had 13 scouts ln attendance at the Counc1l Sum mer Camp the hxghest troop ratmg m the area Only two meetmgs were mlssed dunng the year and those only because of xmposslble travel condmons For the Flrst txme the troop held meetmgs all summer long gathering at the Scout Cabin each Wednesday eve- nmg durmg July August and part of September wxth an average attendance of 14 scouts and 4 leaders 29 In Commumty Service our Scouts assisted In the Bond Dnve and were presented wrth a captured Nan War Banner as a trophy We assxsted Femchff Cemetery at thexr annual Easter Servxce and several Scouts served at the Red Cross Blood Bank at Dobbs Ferry The Scout Camp and Cabm was made available to the Lxons Club for their annual famrly prcmc Certain scouts assisted the Committee For specual events we had Parents Night Father and Son Dmner Annual Camlval Memorial Day Parade Scout Dads vnsltmg a week end camp The outstanding feature of the year was the comple the camp was put dunng the year with the number of week-end camps and day tnps A Council Rmg was con structed and Mr Lyman Kipp bullt a Gne playfield nn front of the cabm Through the co operatlon of Mr Wll ham Duke III the msxde of the cabm was lmed wxth wall board and combmatnon lockers and bunks mstalled An old fashxoned kxtchen range was secured and mstalled to permlt the use of the cabm during colder weather The troop was operated by Boy Leaders and Senxor Patrol Leader GeoHrey Pollock Patrol Leaders Edwm Stone Lester MacLeod john Cnsn and George McCor mack deserve a large measure of credit for the standxng of the troop The Troop Commxttee and Assxstant Scout master Woessner have been of the greatest possxble assist ance wxthout their co-operatron it would have been xm possxble to do the work that has been accomplxshed Our Scout Troop has only one purpose to serve the young men of Ardsley to accomplish Scouts Today Men of Leadershxp Tomorrow l ' D 3 1 ' I .' . , - l , ' ' , . . 4 . 1 8 - ' ' . , nl I g ' . , . . . . , . . . . . .
