5 V' T: .gf w'5 '?- EDITORIAL Not only have our parents and grandparents stated that the younger generat1on IS gett1ng soft that 1t does not know what hardshlps are but the d1ctatorsh1ps have loudly denounced the flabby and 1neff1c1ent people of the decadent democracles The older people d1d not see how we could ever run World affairs rntellrgently when 1t came our turn We would certalnly plunge the world 1nto m1sery w1th our frxvolous ways We havent had that chance and posslbly we never w1ll unless present d1ff1cult1es are settled sat1sfactor1ly We the younger generat1on are pre sented w1th the great temptatron to retort Who s golng to ruln the world? but we des1st not knowlng 1f we would have done d1fferently Young and old ahke we are 1n thts to the end and we w1ll see 1t through to that end Here IS a tallor made opportumty to prove that we are worthy of our hen tages We can prove and are provlng that we are not soft that we can take xt Graduates of not too anc1ent a vm tage are tn there punch1ng and most of us are looktng forward to 1t At home we are makmg the best of short ages of obyects we once belleved 1n dlspensable We real1ze how lmportant 1t IS that we prepare ourselves at some future date 1t may mean the d1fference be tween l1fe and death For that purpose we are dorng our best tn our usual s hool GCl1V1l19S as well as those added dunng our Vtctory Program perlods Bas1c m1l1tary courses phys1cal fitness class home nurs1ng nutntron f1rst a1d Spamsh and home defense have taken equal rank wlth Latln French h1story and geometry our Vlctory Program also We serve as messengers control room workers and a1rplane spotters we sell War Stamps and Bonds work for the Red Cross and part1c1pate fn salvage campalgns Although we may fret at the seemrng fut1l1ty of such acttons when others are g1v1ng the last full measure of devotxon we are patlent for we know that our turn w1ll come We feel certa1n that we can prove that we are Amencans of whom Llncoln Wash1ngton and Iefferson could well be proud The Arnerrcan f1ght1ng Splfll has gr1pped us we w1ll do our best to add to the glonous h1story of our land .
