BOYS' ATHLETICS The change in Athletics, over a period of thirty years, has been more pronounced than in any other field. Fields, playgrounds, equipment, gymnasium, shower rooms, and a gradual increase in the time spent on health and Physical Education have completely changed the sports' program over the past thirty years. The following is a summary of the activities carried on in Ardsley High School. On November I5, thirty-eight boys answered Coach Ken Brown's first call for candidates to compose Varsity and junior Varsity teams. After days of work and prac- tice, the following boys were chosen to represent Ardsley on the Varsity: Dominick Furilla, George Furilla, Thomas Delvluro, Michael Noviello, john Palermo, Carmine Pas- cone, Andrew Reid, and Howard Eaton. These boys were all new to Varsity ball, as all the members of Coach Brown's Tri-County Championship team graduated last year. After a few games, in which the boys learned to get over their nervousness, they settled down: teamwork, co- AHS operation, and spirit came into the picture. improvement came with every game, and it is with high hopes that we look forward to next year, when the boys, with one year's experience behind them will once again put Ardsley among the leaders in the Greenburgh League. The season ended with a fine dinner given by the Lions' Club on March IS. BASEBALL On March l6, twenty-eight boys answered Coach Ken Brown's call for candidates to form a Varsity Baseball team. Coach Brown has two letter men returning to the Varsity this year. The schedule this year consists of games, home and away, with many Westchester schools, including Scarsdale, Bronxville, Pelham, Rye, and North Tarrytown. INTRA-MURAL The intra-mural program is conducted in many sports. After the fundamentals are learned in class work, this program gives many opportunities for boys to put them into actual practice. It also gives them a chance to' im- prove their technique and to develop good sportsmanship. ln the fall, a softball league was formed, and the Championship was won by the Ciestapos, composed of Sophomore and Junior boys. During the winter a tournament was held to obtain a champion in each of the following games: Shuffleboard, Ping Pong, Foul Shooting and lntra-mural Basketball. After the playoffs, the following won the champion- ship in their respective games: Shuffleboard Doubles, Wil- liam Blasberg and Andrew Noe: Ping Pong Doubles, Michele Anselmo and Thomas Delvlurog Ping Pong Singles, Charles Benedict: Foul Shooting Contest, George Spano: and lntra-mural Basketball, American League, Team HB' -junior and Senior Boys.
