I 9l 2 AHS -- I 942 OUTDOOR CLUB STUDENT COUNCIL On une 3 l94I the Outdoor Club resumed its trips which had be n discontinued for the wmter by taking a three day trip through the Adirondacks The main points of lnterest were Lake Placid Saratoga Blue Mountaln Lake George Lake Champlain Long Lake and Tupper Lake At Lake Placid we viewed the Olymplc Ski ump and Bobsled Run During the summer plans were made for a tr1p to Ohio to study the ancient Moundbuilders of this section cf the country The main pomts ot lnterest on this trip were Moundsville West V1rg.,1n1a Newark Ohio and Columbus Ohio From August 73 to August 28 we travelled I 53l miles On September I8 the whole club met to reorgan1z1 for the fall and adn it new members to fill in places of three who had graduated 1n une Martin Engleman Earl ohnson and Donald Thomas were admitted September 25 was set aside for a meetxng and O1 that dav the new offxcers were elected Ted Marquis was elected President lrw1n Lngleman Treasurer and Wallace Hay as Secretary The club has now reached a member ship of ten consistmf of 'led Marquis Wallace Hay eph Dunbar Robert ohnson Fmerson Virden Martin Engleman Donald Thomas Larl ohnson and o11r Super visor Mr Silhman Plans wer made for two trips up the Mohawk Trail On October 2 the first sroup left on the two day tr D through Massachusetts Two boy from Montclair New ersey Russ Reedars and Dick Land were 1nv1ted by Mr Silhman to go along On October I8 the second group left for the sann Greylock the Mohawk rl rail and the Mohawk State Park The second trip had a little more interest than the first because we visited a Steam Path One trlp was made to lv Sllllman s new cabln on December 27 A happy and enjoyable year was had by all with ovcr 3 000 miles tray elled Wallace A Hay Seclctary ln September under the juidance of Mr. SlllTlll'l!1 and Mr Horend the Student Council be an another ytar work with the following off cers President Lois Ann Banlster Vice president lrwm Lnqleman Secretary Ro sxna Mantello Treasurer Emerson Virden One of the main objectives of the Council this ycar has been to try to lessen the congestion and no1se in th halls caused by the increase in the number of students rl his has been partly solved by askmg the students to go less often to their lockers and thereby eliminate unnecessary noi e and crowdxnsf between classes Another plan which the Council has now under way 1s the collection of past and present student leaders names who have served th1 school ID the varlous orffamzations We hope to have these names framed 1nd placed in some prominent place in the school IH order to ll'lSplI'C DYICIC ID leadership Taking part IH American Red Qros work the Stu dent Council has made it its duty to collect magazmes and send them to the VHYIOUS nearby hospitals We hope through the cooperation of all the puoils to be able to continue this work IH the future lQObll'ld Mxntello S cretary MODEL RAILROAD CLUB s Ill W N011 l 1 ll s W s s 1 Y l U l 4 YNN ltls 1 ll 1111 11 IN 11111 ll 1111 1 s 1 1 N N 111 Ill 1111111111 1 11111 1 11 j , . During the past school year both troops have been actively engaged in collecting tin and aluminum foil for the local Salvage Committee, discarded clothing for the local Red Cross, and materials for fracture pillows which are being made by Troop ll Scouts for the County Red Cross. ln addition to these community service projects the C-irl Scouts contributed SIU from their funds and raised an additional Sl 5 by a Scout Cookie Sale for the American Red Cross War Fund. The Scouts are registered with the Child Welfare Committee to serve as messengers as part of the defense program. I9l2 GIRL SCOUTS TROOP l-Mrs. Ray Leach, Captain, Mrs. Herman Gawer, Assistant. sistants. Behleng Assistant, Mrs. F. K. Smith. Since all worl-L and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Troop l sponsored in March a Birthday Party for their parents and Troop ll, soon after, Troop ll held a Mother and Daughter Supper during National Scout Week which was officially opened for Ardsley Scouts by a special Sun- day night supper and service provided by St. Barnabas Chapel. Other special field trips included a l4-mile hike, attending a radio broadcast of Let's Pretend. Christmas shopping expeditions and a visit to the Planetarium. TROOP ll-Miss Helen E..
