wewnrwareemaartwmwnruawnxeereirtuawerunrtrtwpweicmwpwn OZ F R E N C H C L U B The French Club had a year of varied activity during i940 4I At the beginning of the year we cooperated with the Amencan and French Students C0fl'CSP0ndChCC Exchange to help the French refugees in unoccupied France and ln England The girls knitted sweaters and baby sacks We corresponded with French cadets who had escaped to England after the siege of Dunquerque We sent medicaments to refugee headquarters and sold pencils to contribute our share of monetary aid At Christmas tlme we made Christmas cards which we sent to our parents and friends ln addition to these activities we enjoyed a program of cultural activities We sang French songs played historical and quiz games in French and read French plays BS part Of Our Club program In May we presented over radro Sratron WBNX New York an original historical playlet written especially for the radio by Miss Bltterman our sponsor We are looking forward to another year of equally interesting activities in l94l 42 OUTDOOR CLUB The Outdoor Club which is one of the oldest clubs in the school was reorganized in Septem ber with the revival of the school club program A' the first meeting the following officers were elected Gordon Schultz President lrwln Engleman Treasurer oe Dunbar beeretary Mr Srllrman Adviser Other members of the club are Robert ohnson Wallace Hay Ted Marquis Walter Vernon Emerson Virden Paul Nelson and Forrest Baulieu During October two early morning hikes and breakfasts were held ln November the biggest trip of the season took place It was a four day trip to Virginia The mam points of mterest were Endless Caverns The Blue Rldge Mountains Skyline Drive Gettys burg Valley Forge and the Natural Bridge of Virginia Later in the month we viewed some very beautiful movies of the western parks of our country ln December the Club enjoyed a talk by Dr Don Failing on his adventures along the Lab An emergency service unit was organized in the club to serve the community in severe storms or any other type of catastrophe ln anuary the emergency service unit had its first trial when its members served I I2 hours in the Airplane Observation test held under the direction of the U S Army ln anuary and February three short f ps were made to Mr Silllman s cabin The club sold Amerlcan Flag sets to earn money to purchase supplies for emergency service The members feel that this year has been 8 m0St worth While and CnJ0yablC One oeDunbar PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB l:,ight boys under the direction of Rodn y Ferguson formed the Photography Club The following boys were members Martin Engleman Walter Vernon Forrest Bauheu Robert ulllerat Howard Secor Fred Gentsch William Neylan and Gordon H Schultz The club had for its goal the bringing together of students who were interested in gaming greater skill in the art of photography Experience was also acquired in the fields of developing printing and enlarging films All the members derived both pleasure and knowledge from participating in the club activities during the year ODEL RAILROAD CL In September four boys oe Dunbar Wallace Hay Emerson Virden and Robert ohnson all interested in model railroads formed a club Robert ohnson was elected President Wallace Hay Vice president loe Dunbar Secretary Emerson Vlrden Treasurer Many ideas were suggested but money was lacking Since the necessary funds could not be easily obtained the boys secured other means for carrying out their ideas Since that time the four have journeyed to Irvington every week where a friend has taught the boys to lay scale tracks build cars and operate a model railroad The boys have taken such a keen interest that they are now in possession of five scale model freight cars and two cabooses They are indeed very proud of these h bb The chief purpose of the club is to learn how to build models and to provide a worth while 0 Y Robert Johnson 11113311trtftuimittiiifutitvtrinritttwtwtxv .
