HONOR SOCIETY On une 5 1929 the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the Honor Society was recorded in the present secretary s book Now the three hundred pages are almost full and everyone of them bears mention of Honor Society activities Through many years to the present time the organization has flourished This year the group has carried on under the able leadership of Ruth Gubler presi dent Graham Bell vice president Marianna lgrlschmann secretary and Edwin Wheeler treasurer The members of the group wish to express their ratitude to their adviser Miss Conklin for her untirlng efforts Again the torch of l939 lighted the torch of l940 on December l as forty one candidates received membership in the first Degree For the annual Second Degree lnitia tion on anuary 27 a banquet was served A vote of thanks was extended to all the ladies of the committee who had worked so dill ently at both of these functions who supervised the work of the society The Pep Sheet providing the high school with news and the treasury with funds was published Soon we will again xrltiate our new members into the Third Degree have our picnic and so complete the annual cycle Ever the Honor Society grows maintaining the high standards lt set at its founding and provldmg in a small way a reward for those who have aided their school in scholar ship service attendance conduct and welcoming strangers Marianna Frischmann STUDENT COUNCIL The most important activity of the Student Council this year was the mmstrel show which although it had been an annual feature of the past had been discontinued for several years and finally revived again by that greatest mmstrel man ever known ln Ards ley the one and only lVlr Charles W Horencl On the night of October 27 l939 as the endle s crowds filled the high school audi torlum many of the high school students and members of the faculty revealed their hid den talents Part of the proceeds of this mmstrel was used in installing a plaque in the clinic in memory of our beloved physician the late Dr George Q Johnson Dorothy McHer'ry 1 . - L . ORCHESTR fn The year l939 has been an unusually Important year to hlstorlans and to the orches tra It has b en a year that many of the members will remember for years to come Last Aprxl for the first time ln the hlstory of the organization we Jolned the New York State School Music Assocxatlon and Mr Vmcent confldent that we were not the worst mu slcal Group ln Westchester made arrangements for us to compete m the Southeastern New York State Competition Festival at Port Ch ster To our great Joy and surprlse we were declared ellglble for the state finals at Amsterdam Through the cooperation and generoslty of the good people of Ardsley we were able to raise suffxclent funds to transport all the members of the orchestra to Amsterdam There we played before the Judges Our joy knew no llmlts when several days later reports were recelved from the officials declaring the Ardsley Hugh School Orchestra had been rated the thlrd best of lts slze ln the state' Ar the commencement of the new term we found that graduation had taken xts toll of many of the older and more experlenced muslclans but the orgamzatxon has been gradually rebullt through the addltlon of enthusiastic members To further his program for deeper appreclatlon of better muslc Mr Vlnc nt enabled the members of the orchestra to attend a serles of instrumental recltals ln New York Cnty We wlsh to join Wlth the band ln expressing our gratitude to Mr Vincent hopmg he wxll conduct us for many years to come A D Paoluccl . . if ' - wq' 1 14 :VA , ,sf - .M f V 4'-J 'Kr 1.
