THE OLD SCHOOL4 AND THE NEW SCHOOL FOREWORD The purpose of this book is to perpetuate our love for our Alma Mater and to recall the fond memories of pleasures and lnti ate friendships during our years at Ardsley High In the after years when tne shadows of llfe's evening begin to lengthen, we hope that these will brlng bacl tender rerlnders of life at Ardsley This year we have tried to carry out a certain there, narely, that of our early Amerlcan history Each class contributed material tracing thelr conception and pic urlng the development of our country Ardsley used to be known as Ashford, so called because of a large ash tree which stood near a ford in the Saw Iill River. Jhen appllcatlon was made for the establishment of a Post Office, it was found that another town by that name already existed in the state Cyrus W Field of cable fame, who lived nearby, suggested that it be named Ardsley after his ancestral home in England. his suggestion was adopted On our borders are portrayed the rome of Cyrus n Field, situated in Ardsley on Hudson,and the ship, the 'Great Easterner,n as it laid the first cable across the ocean We owe a debt of gratltude to a number of persons who helped to make this year's Ardsleyan a success We wish to express our sincere thanks to miss Clayton, Miss Davis, Miss Robbie, Miss Buell, Mr Iann, ard lr.
