Every ships crest is an original. A unique representation of the character and personality of the crexv and the sea-keeping and fighting qualities of the vessel. It is a legacy that is passed doxvn from the commissioning crevv to all succeeding crevf. An intangible bond all sailors who serve aboard the ship throughout her lifetime. The crest of the U66 ADDENT QMCM 12, was designed by a planlcovfner, Hull Tech- nician Eirst Class Dichard D. Croom of Delco, North Carolina. The blue and gold of the outer border are colors traditionally associated vfith the United dtates Navy. The two gold stars rep resent the tvo previous United dtates naval ships that proudly bore the name ADDENT. The shield signifies protection provided to the fleet, vfhile the broken mine depicts the mine countermeasures mission of the ship. The shield contains the nations colors of red, White and blue representing patriotism and allegiance to country. The flames behind the shield signify the fire and zeal that the crevf possesses. The four red stars above the ships silhouette com- memorate the four battle stars avarded to the second ADDENT for her distinguished ser- vice in the Dacific theater during World War H. The crossed svords behind the shield, one gold and one silver, symbolize the t681I1WOFli and cooperation which exist betveen the offi- cers and enlisted communities. The ships motto, igneus et fervens Cfiery and ferventvb, rep resents the irrepressible character and fighting spirit of the ADDEN T crevf.
