This S bH banner, flying from an Arcturus signal hoist, is one of three such banners that Arcturus flies when she nrovisions other Naval vessels. SSLH G ES T0 SEA he familiar S8zH sign has made its debut on the high seas. Navy men of the Atlantic Fleet are getting accustomed to the first sea-going S8zH banner. The USS Arcturus flies three of the popular We Give SSLH Green Stamps banners right along with its regular signal flags. The Arc- turus is a supply ship that provides refrigerated and dry food provisions to Naval ships of the Atlantic Fleet. In Navy terminology it is known as a reeferg acivilianwouldprobably call it an floating supermarket, for it carries enough food to feed 30,000 hungry sailors for 30 days. ln the past, a standing comment when the Arcturus made a delivery to another ship was, What! No SKZH Green Stamps! So the supply officer of the Arcturus thought he would try to partially answer that question. I know, he said in a letter to S8zH's home office, that we can't give SSZH Green Stamps. But could we fly a couple of S8zH banners on our signal hoists? It would show our customers that we would like to give stamps. S8zH's advertising department responded with three plastic ban- ners. fThe type that is normally used by service stations. They are 55 inches by 30 inches,proclaiming, We Give SSLH Green Stamps. J In the Arcturus' first outing with the banner, a Mediterranean deploy- ment, more than 3,000 tons of provi- sions were transferred to 39 ships while the S8zH banner was flying. fAnd if they had been given stamps that would have filled alot of bookslj ,, ,,,,,,,,, ,,,,, ,W ,,,, , ,,,,,,,, , 6 ,, H Y
