ARION MUSIC AWARD Each year a graduating senior band member is awarded the Arion National Foundation Award for musical achievement. The students are rated according to these qualifications: The band members elect one senior and the faculty elects one senior. Mr. Scott, the band director, then has the final word in sel- ecting the winner. Inspiration to Others Scholastic Standing Diligence Co-operation Personal Habits Attendance Ambition This award consists of three things, plaque which hangs in the band room. .,, .,x,.i DAR and SAR The Sons of the American Revolution honor one boy from each of the A8 states, selected from the senior classes of the senior high schools, and the Daughters of the American Revolution honor one girl from each high school in the same manner, as excelling in the follow- ing qualities which make for good citizenship: Dependability--Truthfulness-Honesty-Punctuality Service--Cooperation-Helpfulness-Responsibility Leadership--Personality-Self Control-Initiative Patriotism--Unselfish Loyality to American Ideals The aim of this project is to build youthful character and to call attention to those qualities which are desirable in good citi- zens. The contest is not an essay writing or a popularity contest. Each member of the senior class votes for the boy and girl of his choice, keeping the above qualifications in mind. The top three girls and the top three boys are presented to the faculty, which selects one boy and one girl to represent their school in the state contest. The winners, one girl and one boy, from each state receive from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, respect- ively, a Government Bond of.S100.00 maturity value. American Legion Award The American Legion Award is given to one boy and one girl in the senior class. The students elect these two senior winners, the facul- ty does not have anything to do with this award. The award is based on these qualities: Character Loyality Scholarship Leadership Courage This award was started by the American Legion in Illinois, but it has now spread to all L8 states. The actual award consists of a Cer- tificate and a medal which is awarded at the end of the year. which are: A lapel ping a medallion on a rib- bon, and the student's name is engraved on a
