tudent Council I Front Row-Mr. Lynch, Jack Fishel, Dean Sanders, Phyllis Vickroy, Roger Logan, Sharon Cuppy, Mickey Strader. Second Row-Georgia Herrington, Audrey Landreth, David Herrington, Lyle Johns, Larry Anderson, Eddie Harshbarger. In l9h9 Arcola High School organized a student council. For some reason this organization was short lived and was dis- continued after a year or two. Since 1952 it has been talked a- bout and discussed with no particular interest being showed by the students. Last year an attempt was again made to organize a council, but it too soon lost its incentive and so died by the wayside. This year, 19514-SS, the council idea seems to have taken hold with more enthusiam. Classes elected council members at the same time they elected class officers. During the year, the main pro- ject has been working out a satisfactory constitution for our adoption prior to presentation to the student body. We have also made tentative plans for assembly programs for the 1955-S6 school year, and plan on having two representatives attend the State Student Council Convention at Peoria April 22 and 23. The student council is a national organization for the welfare of the students in a school. It's purpose are: to establish higher ideals of conductg to train ourselves to live usefully in a democracyg to encourage student participation in all school activities and to create a s 1 it f p r o under t di b t f and students, S an ng 6 Ween aculty
