Pirates Get Off The Ground According to a poll given to kindergarten students through senior high the single most significant happening this school year was the formation of a basketball team. We have named ourselves the “Pirates'’. Nearly everybody comes to the home games and very often we have more fans in the stands than the “Home” team at away games. The Pirates made their hard court debut against the old Daredevils”. Youth and enthusiasm were not quite enough to overcome the years of experi- ence. In the rubber match the next week, the Pirates wore down the veterans and chalked up their first victory. As this publication goes to press the season is still underway so a season win-loss column is not available, but will probably reflect an ambitious start against well established teams who have been playing together for years. In a class essay, this third grader had this to say .. Basketball Games I like the basketball games because they are not related to work. I like to go to them because I would have and otherwise boring evening watch- ing Star Trek. Sometimes we get creamed but we’ll get better. yours truly Dorothy Baldwin
