Homecoming ceremony blows bystanders away Although the queen’s crown did not get stuck on her escort’s shoulder pad or disappear completely and no one had to stand in the rain or trudge through a muddy parking lot, high winds raised havoc upon this year's homecoming. Nominees clung to their dresses and attempted to control their hair while waiting to walk across the field. Mum-bearing fans clutched their flying ribbons and disintegrating flowers, while men and boys held their hats firmly to their heads. Band members scurried about the stands, trying to catch loose music. Despite the wind, the ceremony went smoothly. Jackie Graham was crowned Homecoming Queen by senior Gary Bates. Nominees included Michelle Bledsoe, Angela Keiser, and Gretchen Laudermill. After the game, the Homecoming dance was held indoors at the Country Club, giving relief to the wind-blown fans.
